Graciela Márquez Colín is a Mexican academic and economist. She held the position of Mexican Minister of Economy from 2018–2020,under President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. [1] As of January 2021,she holds the position of Vice President of the Governing Board of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI). She is set to occupy this role for an eight-year term,until December 2028. [2] Previously she was Professor of Economic History at the El Colegio de Mexico in Mexico City where she was a full professor at the Centro de Estudios Historicos. She was also a visiting professor at the University of Chicago. [3]
In 2002 she received her Ph.D. from Harvard University in Economic History. Her Ph.D. dissertation was titled "The Political Economy of Mexican Protectionism,1868-1911" and was awarded the Gershenkron Prize in 2002 by the Economic History Association. She is an expert in the areas of economic history,protectionism,fiscal policies,and the economics of contemporary Mexico.
She obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and her master's degree from The College of Mexico A.C. (El Colegio de Mexico,A.C.). [4] She has been a board member of Pemex (Petróleos Mexicanos) since 2019. [3]
She belongs to the Mexican National System of Researchers and is the author of several articles on trade policy,industrialization,inequality and economic development. [4] She also coedited a book titled The Decline of Latin American Economies:Growth,Institutions,and Crises,which was published by the University of Chicago Press and appeared in the National Bureau of Economic Research Conference Report in 2007. Her husband is Banxico's deputy governor Gerardo Esquivel.
The Chicago Boys were a group of Chilean economists prominent around the 1970s and 1980s,the majority of whom were educated at the Department of Economics of the University of Chicago under Larry Sjaastad,Milton Friedman,and Arnold Harberger,or at its affiliate in the economics department at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. After they finished their studies and returned to Latin America,they adopted positions in numerous South American governments including the military dictatorship of Chile (1973–1990),as economic advisors. Many of them reached the highest positions within those governments. Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher were influenced by Chile's policies and economic reforms.

John Henry Coatsworth is an American historian of Latin America and the former provost of Columbia University. From 2012 until June 30,2019,Coatsworth served as Columbia provost. From 2007 until February 2012 Coatsworth was the dean of Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA),and served concurrently as interim provost beginning in 2011. Coatsworth is a scholar of Latin American economic,social and international history,with an emphasis on Mexico,Central America,and the Caribbean.
Mariana Francesca Mazzucato is an Italian–American-British economist and academic. She is a professor in the Economics of Innovation and Public Value at University College London (UCL) and founding director of the UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose (IIPP). She is best known for her work on dynamics of technological change,the role of the public sector in innovation,and the concept of value in economics. The New Republic have called her one of the "most important thinkers about innovation".
Gustavo Garza is a Mexican economist,Emeritus Researcher of the National Council of Science and Technology in Mexico and Professor of Urban Economics at El Colegio de México. He obtained his B.A. in economics from the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León in Monterrey,his master's degree in economics from El Colegio de México and his Ph.D. in economics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He also holds a Diploma in Planning and Economic Policy from the University of Cambridge. Garza joined the faculty of El Colegio de México in 1970,where he was the Director of the Center for Demographic,Urban and Environmental Studies. He was also an editor of the Journal of Estudios Demográficos y Urbanos from El Colegio de México,and the Founding Director of the Nuevo León Institute of Urban Studies.
Carlos Manuel Urzúa Macías was a Mexican politician and academic who was Professor of Economics at the Tecnológico de Monterrey,Mexico City and Santa Fe campuses. He was a National Researcher and a member of the Mexican Academy of Science. Urzúa Macías served as the Secretary of Finance for the Mexico City government from 2000 to 2003. He was also an award-winning poet.

Graciela Kaminsky is a professor of economics and international affairs at George Washington University and a faculty research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Kaminsky studied economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where she received her Ph.D. In 1984 she did a brief research stay at the Argentine Central Bank,later in 1985 she moved to San Diego as an assistant professor at the University of California. In 1992 she worked on the board of governors of the US Federal Reserve System,later in 1998 she was appointed a full professor at George Washington University,where she works at the Elliot School of International Affairs. Kaminsky has been a visiting scholar at the Bank of Japan,the Bank of Spain,the Federal Reserve Bank of New York,the Hong Kong Monetary Authority,and the Central Bank of France.

She was chair of the United Nations Regional Committee on Global Geospatial Information Management for the Americas from 2017 to 2021. From 2021 to 2024,she co-chaired the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) one of the subsidiary bodies of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) that fosters global development through geospatial information management.
