The Detroit Tigers are an American professional baseball team based in Detroit. The Tigers compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member of the American League (AL) Central division. One of the AL's eight charter franchises,the club was founded in Detroit as a member of the minor league Western League in 1894 and is the only Western League team still in its original city. They are also the oldest continuous one name,one city franchise in the AL.
George Lee"Sparky"Anderson was an American Major League Baseball (MLB) player,coach,and manager. He managed the National League's Cincinnati Reds to the 1975 and 1976 championships,then added a third title in 1984 with the Detroit Tigers of the American League. Anderson was the first manager to win the World Series in both leagues. His 2,194 career wins are the sixth-most for a manager in Major League history. Anderson was named American League Manager of the Year in 1984 and 1987. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2000.
Albert William Kaline,nicknamed "Mr. Tiger",was an American professional baseball right fielder who played 22 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Detroit Tigers. For most of his career,Kaline played in the outfield,mainly as a right fielder where he won ten Gold Glove Awards and was known for his strong throwing arm. He was selected to 18 All-Star Games,including selections each year between 1955 and 1967. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1980,his first time on the ballot.
Cecil Grant Fielder is an American former professional baseball player in Major League Baseball (MLB). Fielder was a power hitter in the 1980s and 1990s. He attended college at the University of Nevada,Las Vegas (UNLV). He played in MLB for the Toronto Blue Jays (1985–1988),in Japan's Central League for the Hanshin Tigers (1989),and then in MLB for the Detroit Tigers (1990–1996),New York Yankees (1996–97),Anaheim Angels in 1998,and Cleveland Indians in 1998. With the Yankees,he won the 1996 World Series over the Atlanta Braves. In 1990,he became the first player to reach the 50–home run mark since George Foster hit 52 for the Cincinnati Reds in 1977 and the first American League player to do so since Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris famously hit 54 and 61 in 1961.
JoséMiguel Cabrera Torres,nicknamed "Miggy",is a Venezuelan professional baseball first baseman,third baseman,and designated hitter for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball (MLB). Since his debut in 2003,he has been a two-time American League (AL) Most Valuable Player (MVP) award winner,a four-time AL batting champion,and a 12-time MLB All-Star. He has played at first and third base for most of his major league career,but primarily played left and right field before 2006. He claimed the 17th MLB Triple Crown in 2012,the first to do so in 45 seasons. In 2022,Cabrera became the third player in history with a career batting average above .300,500 home runs,and 3,000 hits,joining Hank Aaron and Willie Mays.

Russell Jay Kuntz is an American baseball coach and former Major League Baseball (MLB) outfielder. He played for the Chicago White Sox,Minnesota Twins and Detroit Tigers between 1979 and 1985. He never appeared in more than 84 games in any season during his playing career. In the final game of the 1984 World Series,Kuntz hit a pop fly to the second baseman that became the deciding run batted in (RBI).
