Graham Victor Mattson [3] is a New Zealand former rugby league footballer, and coach who represented New Zealand and later coached Tonga. [1]
Mattson was a Point Chevalier Pirates player in the Auckland Rugby League competition and also represented Auckland. Between 1964 and 1965 Mattson played in three test matches for the New Zealand national rugby league team. Mattson worked as a Police Constable. [4]
Mattson began his coaching career in the 1970s with Point Chevalier before coaching the Mangere East Hawks, spending most of his time with the lower grades. [4]
In 1981 Mattson was the head coach of the new Papatoetoe Panthers club and was on their inaugural committee. [5] [6] [7]
In 1990 he was appointed the Auckland coach. [8]
Mattson later coached Tonga at the 1994 Pacific Cup. [9]
Richard John Ackland is a New Zealand former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s and 1980s, coach in the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s, and scout in the 2000s, and former cricketer in the 1980s, who works for the New Zealand Warriors in the National Rugby League. He represented New Zealand in 1983. His late uncle, Ron, also played for New Zealand.
