The Greater Accra Regional Hospital (formerly the Ridge Hospital) [1] is a major regional hospital located in Accra, Ghana.

History & Background

It is Located in the heart of Accra city, the GARH started as a Hospital for the European expatriates around 1928. It became a District Hospital after Ghana’s independence in 1957 and was later designated as Ridge Regional Hospital in 1997 and now redeveloped and transformed into an ultra-modern 420 bed capacity hospital with the full complement of specialist services that reflects the current social aspirations of the rapidly growing capital city of Ghana. [2]

Medical Directors

Dr Thomas Anaba served for one year as the MD and was later transferred to the University for Development Studies where he had served as a permanent lecturer before assuming his new role at Greater Accra Regional Hospital. [3] Dr. Thomas Anaba was alleged to have campaigned for the National Democratic Congress in the Garu Tempane constituency in the Upper East Region during the 2016 general elections. However, he denied ever engaging in such act. [4]

Dr. Emmanuel Kwabla Srofenyoh resumed operation and by Monday, 22 May 2017 he started to deploy his staff into the facility then begin receiving new patients into the facility. [5]

The 37 Military Hospital is a specialist hospital located in Accra, on the main road between the Kotoka International Airport and central Accra. Emmanuel Ofei Ansah was a Ghanaian former professional footballer and manager. During his playing career he played as a defender for Accra Hearts of Oak. At the international level, he is known for his involvement in the squad that won the 1978 African Cup of Nations. Whilst serving as the manager of Accra Hearts of Oak, on 7 June 2005, he collapsed after a Ghana Premier league match and was rushed to the Ridge Hospital, Accra, but unfortunately died the following day.

Clubhouse Ghana Mental Health Rehabilitation Center is an initiative under the ML4Lyfe Foundation, a non-profit organization, which focuses on addressing mental health issues in Ghana. It is located at Oyarifa in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. It is the first-ever Clubhouse-franchised Rehabilitation Center in Ghana and also the first in West Africa.
