Greenland: Migration is an upcoming American post-apocalyptic survival thriller film directed by Ric Roman Waugh and written by Chris Sparling and Mitchell LaFortune. It is a sequel to the 2020 film Greenland , and will be released by Lionsgate. [2]
"The survived Garrity family must leave the safety of the Greenland bunker and embark on a perilous journey across the decimated wasteland of Europe to find a new home." [3] [4]
In June 2021, it was announced a sequel titled Greenland: Migration was in development. The following month, STX acquired the worldwide distribution rights for the film for $75 million at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival. [5] It was put into bankruptcy protection, [6] the cast returned, and while Morena Baccarin was initially reluctant, she eventually agreed to return for the sequel. [7] In May 2024, Lionsgate acquired the United States distribution rights for the film.
Principal photography began on April 29, 2024, in Shinfield Studios [8] and Alton, Hampshire, United Kingdom and Iceland. [9] [10] Filming wrapped in July 2024. [11]
Greenland: Migration is scheduled to be released in the United States on January 9, 2026. [12] It was originally scheduled to be released in the United States on March 28, 2025, Greenland: Migration's release was later postponed indefinitely. [13] The 05/21/25 weekly CARA/MPA Film Ratings Bulletin, which features the official MPA ratings and rating reasons, lists Greenland: Migration as PG-13. [14] [15]
