Hardanahalli Devegowda Revanna (born 17 December 1957) is an Indian politician from the state of Karnataka, and a member of the Legislative Assembly in the state of Karnataka, representing the Holenarasipur constituency in Hassan district. [2] His political party is Janata Dal (Secular). [3] H. D. Revanna was booked in a kidnapping case in April 2024 after a 20-year-old man filed a police complaint alleging that Revanna’s associate abducted his mother, who was among the many women featured in the alleged sexual abuse tapes of Revanna’s son Prajwal Revanna.

Personal life and family

He is one of the sons of former Prime Minister of India H. D. Deve Gowda and Chanamma, and is the elder brother of H. D. Kumaraswamy. He is married to Bhavani Revanna and he has two sons Suraj and Prajwal. [3] His son, Prajwal Revanna, was elected to Lok Sabha from Hassan constituency in 2019. He was absconding after his alleged sex tapes were leaked, having fled to Germany. He arrived in Bangalore back on May 31th. Currently he is in the custody of Special Investigation Team (India). Revanna has stated that his son should be hanged if he is guilty of committing crimes. [4]

His son, Suraj was also arrested by Police in alleged sexual harassment case on 23rd June 2024

Political career

He won the Holenarasipur Karnataka Legislative Assembly seat in 1994. He again contested unsuccessfully in 1999, he was elected again in the 2004 General Elections for the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from the same constituency. This time he became Minister for PWD (Public Works Department) and Energy Department in Dharam Singh and H. D. Kumaraswamy Government. [3] H. D. Revanna was also the president of Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) for 9 years. [3] In 2018 Karnataka assembly elections, H. D. Revanna took 92,713 votes from Holenarasipur. [5]

Haradanahalli Doddegowda Deve Gowda is an Indian politician who served as the 11th prime minister of India from 1 June 1996 to 21 April 1997. After his prime ministerial tenure, he was elected to the 12th (1998), 14th (2004), 15th, and 16th Lok Sabha, as Member of Parliament for the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency. He lost Lok Sabha elections in 2019 from Tumkuru but has been elected to Rajya Sabha since.

The politics of Karnataka is represented by three major political parties, the Indian National Congress, the Janata Dal (Secular) and the Bharatiya Janata Party. The Janata Dal (Secular) and the Indian National Congress led coalition government was in power in the state since May, 2018, till July, 2019. H.D. Kumaraswamy of the Janata Dal (Secular) was the Chief Minister from 23 May, 2018, to 23 July, 2019. Now Siddaramaiah of INC is incumbent, forming the government since 20 May 2023.

Yagati Suryanarayana Venkatesha Datta is an Indian politician and former member of Karnataka Legislative Assembly from the Kadur seat in 2013 on the Janata Dal (Secular) ticket. Later on 14 January 2023, Datta who had earlier joined INC, reverted to JD(S) on April 13, 2023, in the presence of HD Revanna anda MP Prajwal Revanna. His return was, however, opposed by HD Kumarswamy, who left the matter to Revanna.
