The remaining seven designers must create small lounge areas for a party thrown by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. Each lounge must be inspired by a different time/design period seen in the history of Hollywood. For their Camera Challenge, the contestants must speak publicly to the event's guests about their space.

Designers randomly select different color hues and work on different condominiums and appear on National Daytime Show, The Talk.

In order to move on to the final challenge, the final three designers must create a fantasy bedroom suite in a yurt, a unique and challenging structure to design in. They each get to work with a celebrity carpenter who is a current member of a television show. The designers must also film two camera challenges: one to display interaction with their respective carpenter and explain a project he is working on, and a second, more general one about the space.

For the last challenge, the final two designers have to make pilots for their own show. Before they begin, the last four designers to be eliminated returned and split into two teams. One going with Brittany and the other going with Danielle alongside their carpenters. Mikel and Rachel joined Brittany and Hilari and Stanley joined Danielle. Each team had a real family to transform a dining and living room for.

From May 1, 2012, until July 27, 2012, fans of the show could go to HGTV Design Star's website and vote ten times each day for their favorite designers to win an online show. On July 27, runner-up Britany Simon was announced as the winner of the fan favorite contest. Her online show will premiere soon.

Thom Filicia is an American interior designer, known for his role as an interior design expert on the American television program Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. He is also a co-author of a book based on the show.
Project Runway is an American reality television series that premiered on Bravo on December 1, 2004. The series focuses on fashion design. It was created by Eli Holzman and was hosted by Heidi Klum from 2004 to 2017. It has a varied airing history, with Bravo originating the first five seasons, followed by Lifetime for eleven more. The show has had over 30 international adaptations.
HGTV Star, named HGTV Design Star for the first seven seasons, was an American reality competition show that premiered on July 23, 2006, on the cable television network HGTV. Clive Pearse served as host for Seasons 1-4, then judge Vern Yip served as host for Season 5, replacing Clive Pearse. HGTV'D host Tanika Ray served as host for Season 6 and Design Star Season 1 winner David Bromstad join the show as a mentor. Bromstad later return not only as mentor but as host, replacing Tanika Ray, for the remainder of the show including Design Star: All Stars, even though Tanika Ray announce as host for Season 7. Vern Yip, Genevieve Gorder, and Sabrina Soto currently serve as the show's three judges. Candice Olson served as a judge for seasons 4 and 5; starting with season 6, a third rotating judge was brought in to fill the spot left by Olson. Previous judges include Cynthia Rowley, a designer of fashion and home accessories; and Martha McCully, Executive Editor of InStyle magazine.
Top Design is an American reality television series. Interior designers competed to win cash and receive a spot in New York's Designer showcases. The first season premiered on January 31, 2007, following the season finale of Top Chef. Todd Oldham was the host, while famed potter and interior designer Jonathan Adler was lead judge. Kelly Wearstler and Margaret Russell also served as judges. Matt Lorenz was declared the winner. Although the first season received poor ratings, Bravo decided to air a second season starting September 3, 2008, with India Hicks as host and Oldham serving in the role of mentor, similar to Tim Gunn on Project Runway. Adler, Wearstler, and Russell returned as judges.
David Reed Bromstad is an American designer and television personality. In 2006, he became the winner of the debut season of HGTV Design Star. He has hosted a number of HGTV shows, including Color Splash, Beach Flip and My Lottery Dream Home.
Project Runway Season 4 was the fourth season of Project Runway, Bravo's reality competition for fashion designers. The season premiered November 14, 2007. Returning as judges were supermodel Heidi Klum; fashion designer Michael Kors; and Nina Garcia, Elle magazine fashion director. Tim Gunn, chief creative officer at Liz Claiborne, Inc., again acts as a mentor to the contestants.
Project Runway Canada Season 1 is the first season of Project Runway Canada, a reality competition show for fashion designers that is part of the Project Runway franchise. It aired in late 2007 on the Slice channel, which had relaunched earlier that year. The season received critical acclaim, and won the 2008 Gemini Award for Best Reality Program or Series. Project Runway Canada gave Slice one of its most successful series since the launch of its new branding.
Project Runway Season 6, premiered on Lifetime on August 20, 2009, the first season to be aired on that network. The production of this season started in September 2008 and finished the pre-finale filming on October 17, 2008. It is the only season of Project Runway filmed at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles.
The fifth season of HGTV Design Star premiered on June 13, 2010. The series returned to New York City for the new season. Clive Pearse did not return to host. Instead, Vern Yip served as both lead judge and host. Candice Olson and Genevieve Gorder both returned for their second season as judges. As part of the elimination process this season, the designers up for elimination are taped presenting their designs so the judges can evaluate their preparedness to host a series. The winner of this season was prop stylist Emily Henderson. Her show Secrets From a Stylist was aired as a special one-hour premiere on August 29, 2010, where she redesigned the Los Angeles home of Ian Brennan, her friend and the co-creator of Glee. HGTV has since ordered twenty-six more episodes of Secrets From a Stylist, which are due to air in 2011.
The first season of Muodin huipulle started airing on Finland's MTV3 on 1 October 2009 at 20.00. The show was hosted by fashion designer and entrepreneur Minna Cheung in Heidi Klum's role and fashion editor and host Jaakko Selin fills Tim Gunn's role as fashion mentor.
The fourth season of HGTV Design Star premiered on July 19, 2009. The series was filmed in Los Angeles, California for the first time. Vern Yip returned as a judge, and was joined by newcomers Genevieve Gorder and Candice Olson. Clive Pearse returned as host, and this was his final season hosting the show. A major change this season was that the judges decided the winner, instead of having a public vote. The winner was Antonio Ballatore, whose show The Antonio Treatment debuted in March 2010.

HGTV Design Star season 3 was the third season of the American reality TV home design show HGTV Design Star. The season first aired from 8 June to 3 August 2008 on HGTV in 9 weekly episodes. The season was hosted by Clive Pearse and the judges were designers Vern Yip and Cynthia Rowley. The final challenge involved renovating houses damaged during Hurricane Katrina and the winner was chosen in a vote open to viewers. The winner was Jennifer Bertrand, who won her own TV show on HGTV called Paint-Over! with Jennifer Bertrand.

Ellen's Design Challenge is an American furniture design reality competition series that premiered on January 26, 2015, on HGTV. The six-episode first season was announced in April 2014, as the first cable television series executive produced by talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. In June 2015, HGTV renewed the series for a second season, that premiered on January 18, 2016.
The first season of Top Chef: Just Desserts was broadcast on Bravo. It featured 12 pastry chefs fighting to win the title of Top Chef.
