HRT 2 (HTV 2, "Drugi program") is a Croatian free-to-air public broadcast television channel owned and operated by Hrvatska Radiotelevizija (HRT). Its line-up focuses mainly on entertainment, although it also broadcasts news and documentaries. The channel started 24-hour broadcasts on 14 January 2011. [1]

Contents

A new broadcast of HRT 2, HRT 2 No Latency was launched on 20 November 2022, available only on the HRTi streaming service, following the opening of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The channel was closed down at the end of the World Cup. HRT 2 Low Latency aired the same programs as HRT 2, without the ability to pause and rewind.

Local programming

When it comes to local programming, HRT 2 mostly airs re-runs of television programs previously broadcast by HRT 1. The channel does, however, offer a number of small-scale production television series, such as those oriented at entertainment and lifestyle.

Acquired programming

Unlike HRT 1 which puts a greater focus on local programming, HRT 2 offers a larger chunk of television series acquired from foreign television networks. These are largery British television series, often acquired from BBC.

Current programming

Currently, the channel airs a vast array of non-scripted documentary and lifestyle television series in the morning and during the day. The channel also features a programming block titled Krimi petak (English: Crime Friday), which features acquired crime television series airing every Friday in the prime time. [5]

HRT 2 broadcast various live sports events. The 2024 Summer Olympics were broadcast by the channel in UHD. [8] [9]

Croatia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest five times, and won the inaugural edition in 2003. Croatian broadcaster Hrvatska radiotelevizija (HRT), a member organisation of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), were responsible for the country's participation. Croatia participated in the first four editions, from 2003 to 2006, organising a national final to select the country's entrant. The first representative to participate for Croatia was Dino Jelusić with the song "Ti si moja prva ljubav", which finished in first place out of sixteen participating entries, with a score of 134 points. Croatia was absent from the contest between 2007 and 2013, but HRT decided to return to the contest in 2014 and selected their entry internally. In 2014, Josie finished in last place for Croatia with the song "Game Over", after which HRT again withdrew from competing the following year.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Croatian Radiotelevision</span> Croatian radio television company

Hrvatska radiotelevizija, or Croatian Radiotelevision, is a Croatian public broadcasting company. It operates several radio and television channels, over a domestic transmitter network as well as satellite. HRT is divided into three joint companies – Croatian Radio, Croatian Television and Music Production, which includes three orchestras and a choir.

RTL is a Croatian free-to-air television network founded on 30 April 2004. It was owned by the RTL Group from 2004 to 2022. Since 1 June 2022, it is owned by the CME Group. It is the second commercial television network in Croatia that has a national concession, following Nova TV.

Croatia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 29 times since making its debut at the 1993 contest. The Croatian participant broadcaster in the contest is Hrvatska radiotelevizija (HRT), which has selected its entrant at the Dora festival since 1993, excluding from 2012 to 2018. Croatia's best result in the contest is a second-place finish in 2024.

Croatia was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 with the song "Moja štikla", composed by Boris Novković and Franjo Valentić, with lyrics by Severina Vučković, and performed by Severina herself. The Croatian participating broadcaster, Hrvatska radiotelevizija (HRT), organised the national final Dora 2006 to select its entry for the contest. Thirty-two entries competed in the national final which consisted of three shows: two semi-finals and a final. Eight entries qualified from each semi-final on 2 and 3 March 2006 to compete in the final on 4 March 2006. In the final, "Moja štikla" performed by Severina was selected as the winner following the combination of votes from a five-member jury panel and a public televote. Songwriter Novković had represented Croatia in 2005 together with Lado members.

Croatia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 with the song "Vjerujem u ljubav" written by Dado Topić. The song was performed by the band Dragonfly featuring Dado Topić. The Croatian broadcaster Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) organised the national final Dora 2007 to select the Croatian entry for the 2007 contest in Helsinki, Finland. Thirty-two entries competed in the national final which consisted of three shows: two semi-finals and a final. Eight entries qualified from each semi-final on 1 and 2 March 2007 to compete in the final on 3 March 2007. In the final, "Vjerujem u ljubav" performed by Dragonfly featuring Dado Topić was selected as the winner following the combination of votes from a five-member jury panel and a public televote.

The Croatian broadcaster Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) organised the national final Dora 2008 to select the Croatian entry for the 2008 contest in Belgrade, Serbia. A total of twenty-four entries competed in the national final which consisted of two shows: a semi-final and a final. In the semi-final on 22 February 2008, six entries qualified to compete in the final on 23 February 2008 alongside ten pre-qualified songs. In the final, "Romanca" performed by Kraljevi ulice and 75 Cents was selected as the winner following the combination of votes from a five-member jury panel and a public televote.

HRT 1 is a Croatian television channel, operated by public broadcaster Hrvatska Radiotelevizija (HRT). It is a generalist channel, whose diverse programming lineup includes news programming and other informative series throughout the different parts of the day, as well as a vast array of scripted and non-scripted original and acquired television series.

Television in Croatia was first introduced in 1956. As of 2012, there are 10 nationwide and 21 regional DVB-T television channels, and there are more than 30 other channels either produced in the Republic of Croatia or produced for the Croatian market and broadcast via IPTV, cable, or satellite television. The electronic communications market in Croatia is regulated by the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM), which issues broadcast licenses and monitors the market. The DVB-T and satellite transmission infrastructure is developed and maintained by the state-owned company Odašiljači i veze (OiV).

<i>Dnevnik HRT</i> 1968 Croatian TV series or program

Dnevnik HRT is the main news program of the Croatian public broadcasting company Hrvatska radiotelevizija (HRT), broadcast daily at 12:00, 19:00 and around 23:00. It broadcasts mainly on HRT 1, as well as on HRT 4, where an additional sign language interpreter is employed and displayed on screen.

Croatia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 with the song "Lako je sve" written by Branimir Mihaljević, Pamela Ramljak and Neda Parmać. The song was performed by the group Feminnem, which had previously represented Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005 where they placed fourteenth with the song "Call Me". The Croatian broadcaster Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) organised the national final Dora 2010 to select the Croatian entry for the 2010 contest in Oslo, Norway. A total of twenty-four entries competed in the national final which consisted of two shows: a semi-final and a final. In the semi-final on 5 March 2010, eight entries qualified to compete in the final on 6 March 2010 alongside eight pre-qualified songs. In the final, "Lako je sve" performed by Feminnem was selected as the winner following the combination of votes from a nine-member jury panel and a public televote.

Croatia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 with the song "Mižerja" written by Goran Topolovac. The song was performed by the group Klapa s Mora, which was selected internally by the Croatian broadcaster Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) on 11 February 2013 to represent Croatia at the 2013 contest in Malmö, Sweden. Their song "Mižerja" was presented to the public on 27 February 2013 during a live streamed press conference.

The Voice Hrvatska is a reality singing competition and version of The Voice of Holland for Croatia. It is part of the international syndication The Voice based on the reality singing competition launched in the Netherlands, created by Dutch television producer John de Mol.

Croatian Radio is the official broadcasting service of Croatia. Founded on May 15, 1926 as Zagreb Radio, it's the first radio station in all of Southeast Europe. Part of Croatian Radiotelevision, it operates three national stations, several regional branches and an international service.

Croatia will be represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, which will be held in Basel, Switzerland. The Croatian participating broadcaster, Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT), will organise the national final Dora 2025 in order to select its entry for the contest.

Zvijezde pjevaju is a Croatian singing competition reality television series based on the British format of Just the Two of Us. The series sees non-singer celebrities paired up with professional singers in order to compete for the win in an elimination-based format.
