Hadija Namanda sometimes spelt as Hadijah Namanda born 18 November 1975, is a Ugandan sports administrator and Election officer. [1] [2] [3] She was the first female president in the history of the Uganda Volleyball Federation(2017-2021). [4] [5] She is the proprietor of Tena Tennis Academy and serves as the treasurer of the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) in East Africa. Hadijah also works in the Voter Data Management department at the Uganda Electoral Commission.

Early life

She is the first born of the seven children of the late Sawuya Naggayi and Abdu Ssenyondo of Masaka District. Hadija attended Shimoni Demonstration School for primary education and Gayaza High School while she joined Makerere University for her first degree. Hadija currently she pursuing a master's degree in Sports management at the German sports University of Cologne. [3]

Career

Hadija took the mantle as Federation of Uganda Volleyball Federation president on 9 January 2017 after succeeding Sadik Nasiwu. [4] [6] In October 2020, Hadija contested for a gender minority position at the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) [7] [8] however, she did not emerge victorious after Lesotho counterpart won the election. [9] Namanda has practiced a number of sports, including table tennis, in which she was ranked ninth in Africa in 1996, and badminton. She is a certified A Level II FIVB Volleyball Coach and an international referee of Volleyball. [10] [6]

She is a mother to Tendo Mukalazi and Kirabo Namutebi. [3] [11] [12]

The 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship was held in Poland from 30 August to 21 September 2014. The tournament featured 24 teams to determine the world champions in men's volleyball. The final tournament was held in Durango City, Mexico. Mexico were chosen as the hosts for this event for the second time after previously hosting the 2007 tournament.

The tournament was held in Kigali, Rwanda from 7 to 14 September 2021. The top two teams of the tournament qualified for the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship as the CAVB representatives.

The 2021 Women's African Nations Volleyball Championship is the 20th edition of the Women's African Volleyball Championship, a biennial international volleyball tournament organised by the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) with Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB). The tournament is held in Kigali, Rwanda from 12 to 20 September 2021. The top two teams of the tournament will qualify for the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship as the CAVB representatives.

Shilla Omuriwe Buyungo is a Ugandan volleyball player and the current Head Coach of the Uganda Volleyball Cranes, Uganda's Men's National Volleyball team. Buyungo was appointed to this position in July 2021 making her the first female to hold this position. She was also the first woman to coach at the African Club Championship 2015 in Tunisia.

Tendo Mukalazi is a Ugandan swimmer. In the 2022 Commonwealth Games, he represented Uganda in swimming where he participated in four different events; men’s 50m freestyle, men’s 100m freestyle, Mixed 4x 100m freestyle relay, Mixed 4x 100m Medley Relay and in the men’s 50m Breaststroke.

The 2022 Girls' African Nations Volleyball Championship U19 was the 16th edition of the Girls' Africa Volleyball Championship U19, a biennial international women's volleyball tournament organised by the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) for the girls' under-19 national teams of Africa. It was held in Abuja, Nigeria from 2 to 5 September 2022.
