Hailu Zewde (born 13 September 1974) is an Ethiopian middle-distance runner. He competed in the men's 1500 metres at the 1992 Summer Olympics. [1]

The Coalition for Unity and Democracy, commonly referred to by its English abbreviation CUD, or occasionally CDU, was a coalition of four existing political parties of Ethiopia which combined to compete for seats in the Ethiopian General Elections held on May 15, 2005, and around the end of that year, became a full-fledged political party. Its leader was Hailu Shawul and the political party was dissolved in 2007.

Hailu Shawul was an Ethiopian politician and civil engineer who was the leader of the Coalition for Unity and Democracy (CUD) during the 2005 Ethiopian general election. He was also the leader of All Ethiopian Unity Party from 1996 to 2013. He died on 6 October 2016, while receiving treatment at a hospital in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Battle of Gur Amba was fought on 27 November 1852 between the forces of the Ethiopian regent, Ras Ali II, and the rebel forces of Kassa Hailu. Kassa was victorious, and Goshu Zewde of Mota, Gojjam, the commander of the regent's forces, was killed. This was the first of a series of four victories which led to Kassa becoming Emperor Tewodros II of Ethiopia.

The Battle of Amba Jebelli was fought in Ethiopia in 1854 between the forces of Kassa Hailu, and the forces of Birru Goshu of Gojjam. Kassa was victorious, Birru Goshu was captured and spent the next 14 years in chains.

The Zemene Mesafint was a period in Ethiopian history between the mid-18th and mid-19th centuries when the country was ruled by a class of Oromo elite noblemen who replaced Habesha nobility in their courts, making the emperor merely a figurehead. For the most part, the regional lords were tightly related by marriage and constituted a stable ruling elite that prevailed until the mid-20th century. In short, during the Zemene Mesafint, the emperors from the Solomonic dynasty were reduced to little more than figureheads confined to the capital city of Gondar.

Hailu Fana is an Ethiopian former cyclist. He competed in the team time trial at the 1992 Summer Olympics.

Zewde Hailemariam is a former Ethiopian middle distance runner who specialised in 800 meters, and 400 meters hurdles events. She won four medals in three different African Championships in Athletics from 1989 and 1992, including one gold in 800 metres at the 1992 edition in June of that year. Only a month later she competed for Ethiopia at the 1992 Summer Olympics in the same event, but ran 2:11.60, more than five seconds slower than at the continental championships, and finished sixth in her qualifying heat, failing to progress to the semi-finals. As of 2016, Hailemariam still holds the Ethiopian national 400 m hurdles record (57.60) she ran at the 1987 All-Africa Games in Nairobi.

Eregnaye is an Ethiopian television drama series written by Azeb Worku, Beza Hailu and Kidist Yilma, with the latter produced it. It premiered on 7 June 2021 on ARTS TV and concluded on 19 August 2022 with 4 season and 48 episodes. Starring Hailemelekot Mewael, Fikreyesus Zewde, Solomon Bogale, Mulalem Tadesse, Sayat Demissie Abebe Balcha, Amanuel Habtamu and Dirbwork Seifu, the story revolves on the rural Ethiopian culture and emphasizes about social norms in a one single utopian community. The community mutual relationship is later eroded by one greedy company who wants to grab their land and corrupt their culture.

Goshu Zewde of Gojjam, also known by his horse name Abba Kanno, was a prominent governor of Damot, Metcha, and Ybaba during the first half of the 19th century. While his son Birru Goshu governed most of Gojjam, Goshu’s influence extended widely, solidifying his reputation as a formidable leader. As a member of the ruling dynasty of Gojjam, he was one of the significant lords in the last decades of the Zemene Mesafint. Respected by princes, church leaders, and farmers alike, Goshu was admired for his noble lineage and his admirable character. His influence and dedication were further recognized when he was granted the title of Dejazmach in 1825 and elevated to Ras by Emperor Sahle Dengel in 1848.
