Haini bin Haji Hashim is a Brunei artist and retired diplomat who became the ambassador to Russia from 2012 to 2022. [1] [2] He became the first Bruneian to be honored as a member of the Russian Academy of Arts in 2017.
Earlier in Haiti's career, he took office as the head of protocol in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT). [3] At MOFAT, he would also be the director of administration on 14 August 2005. [4] The Russian Embassy held a celebration on 3 June 2012, in honour of Haini, the newly appointed ambassador of Brunei to Russia, who would be leaving for Moscow. [5] On the 25th, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah gave his approval for three recently chosen Brunei envoys—among them, Haini, the country's designated ambassador to Russia—to receive letter of credence. [6] In December, he accompanied Mustappa Sirat on his working visit to the Russia. [7]
In 2012, 2013, and 2016, the Sultan made three trips to Russia. Brunei was visited by Sergey Lavrov in 2012 and 2013. The two nations inked a number of Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) in the areas of commerce, energy, defense, education, and culture. [2] Among Haini's major accomplishments during his ten years in Moscow were raising awareness of Brunei among the general public and officials, encouraging them to explore further avenues for cooperation, and establishing 14-day visa-free travel between Brunei and Russia in 2017, [2] which in turn promoted tourism. Additionally, he built stronger understanding and improved cooperation in the area of Islamic faith and improved bilateral partnerships, particularly in the areas of education and tourism. [8]
From 24 to 26 April 2018, he once again accompanied Halbi Mohammad Yussof to attend the 9th International Meeting of High-Ranking Officials Responsible for Security Matters in Sochi. [9]
Haini claimed to be a self-taught artist who had never received any professional training or instruction in the arts. Through reading and observation, he developed his knowledge base, which in turn helped him to hone his unique visual aesthetic. In addition to his passion in abstract painting, he also likes painting landscapes and other natural subjects using oil paints. His career as a diplomat has provided him with significant benefits in exploring ideals and associated experiences in art. In order to foster bilateral collaboration between the two nations, he uses his art shows in Russia. [8]

In his fifth year as Brunei's ambassador, the Russian Academy of Arts gave him an honorary membership, making him the first Bruneian to earn such a distinction. [8] He has earned the following honours;

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, formerly known as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT), is the cabinet-level ministry in the government of Brunei which is responsible for handling Brunei's external relations, the management of its international diplomatic missions and the nation's foreign trade policy. It was established immediately upon Brunei's independence on 1 January 1984. It is currently led by a minister and a second minister, in which the incumbents are Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan of Brunei, and Erywan Yusof respectively. The ministry is headquartered in Bandar Seri Begawan.
Pengiran Muhammad Yusuf bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahim, pen name Yura Halim, was a Bruneian nobleman, politician, civil servant, diplomat, and writer. He served as the Chief Minister of Brunei from 1967 to 1972. He wrote the lyrics for Brunei's national anthem, "Allah Peliharakan Sultan," in 1947. The song was adopted as the country's official national anthem in 1951, when it was still a British protectorate. He was longtime member of the Legislative Council of Brunei, serving on the council until his death in 2016.
Halbi bin Haji Mohammad Yussof is a Bruneian nobleman, military officer, and politician, who currently serves as a Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Minister of Defence II. He is a former member of the Legislative Council of Brunei, and previously served as the Minister of Defence II from 2018 to 2022, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports from 2015 to 2018, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), and Commander of the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF).
Malai Halimah binti Malai Haji Yusoff is a Bruneian diplomat who has since become the ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Vietnam in 2022. She became Ambassador of Brunei in the Philippines in 2008 and Monaco in 2018.
Tan Bee Yong is a retired Bruneian Chinese civil servant and diplomat in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT). She has been previously appointed to serve as the non-resident ambassador and high commissioner to several nations.
Kamilah binti Haji Mohd Hanifah is a Bruneian diplomat who became the ambassador to Japan since 2017, and the former consul general in Hong Kong.
Rakiah binti Haji Abdul Lamit @ Hamid is a Bruneian diplomat who became the resident and non-resident ambassador to France and Monaco respectively since 2023, ambassador to Germany from 2015 to 2022, and high commissioner to Canada from 2008 to 2012.
Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof bin Abu Bakar is a Bruneian nobleman, military officer and diplomat who became the ambassador to Germany, and non-resident ambassador to Switzerland and Poland. Notably, he was the acting Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, and the Deputy President of National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD).
Mohammad Aziyan bin Abdullah @ Yong Foo is a Bruneian diplomat of Chinese descent who became the high commissioner to the United Kingdom from 2010 to 2014, and non-resident ambassador to Greece.
Mohammad Nor bin Haji Jeludin is a Brunei diplomat who became the ambassador to Japan from 2003 to 2005.
Mohd Adnan bin Buntar is a Brunei diplomat who became the high commissioner to India from 1994 to 1997, and ambassador to Japan from 2005 to 2008. He has held other major titles such as the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT), and former chairman of the Brunei Japan Friendship Association.
Alaihuddin bin Haji Mohamad Taha is a Bruneian diplomat that has been holding the post of high commissioner to India since 2021. He was formerly the permanent representative to the United Nations at Geneva and high commissioner to Malaysia.
Megawati binti Dato Paduka Haji Manan is a Bruneian diplomat and holding the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei to the Philippines since 2023. Additionally, she is the alternate chair for Brunei in the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC).
