Halbi bin Haji Mohammad Yussof (born 22 June 1956) [4] [5] is a Bruneian nobleman, military officer, and politician, who currently serves as a Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Minister of Defence II. [6] He is a former member of the Legislative Council of Brunei, and previously served as the Minister of Defence II from 2018 to 2022, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports from 2015 to 2018, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), and Commander of the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF).
Halbi was born in Kampong Kilanas near Bandar Seri Begawan in Brunei Darussalam on 22 June 1956. [5] He is married to Datin Hajah Kalshom binti Haji Suhaili. [7]

On 11 August 1975, Halbi enlisted in the Royal Brunei Malay Regiment (RBMR), now known as the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF). On 6 February 1976, after completing six months of basic training, he was enrolled at the British Army's Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) in England, United Kingdom, and was made an officer cadet. After completing Sandhurst's Standard Military Course No. 13, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant on 7 April 1977. [4]
From 1 February 2001 to 14 March 2003, Brigadier General Halbi became the fourth commander of the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF). [8] In 2004, he oversaw the Brunei Defence White Paper, along with its update in 2007. [3] On 8 January 2005, he received a farewell call from the Malaysian Chief of Defence Forces, Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor, and discussed improving the relations between the two countries via bilateral military relationships. [9] He, along with Yasmin Umar and Abdul Halim Mohd Yussof, visited the recently arrived RSS Steadfast at Muara Naval Base during the opening ceremony of Exercise Pelican on 3 June 2008. [10] After that, on 10 November 2009, Major General Halbi made his last visit to Singapore, which was concluded with a meeting with Desmond Kuek and an inspection of the Guard of Honour. [11] The handover ceremony between Halbi and his successor, Aminuddin Ihsan, was held at Tutong Camp, Tutong on 31 December 2009. [3]

In 2010, Halbi was appointed Brunei's High Commissioner to Malaysia. [13] On 30 May 2015, he was appointed the Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Home Affairs, which he would hold until 21 October 2015, [14] in which he would be reappointed to Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. [2] On 18 November 2015, Minister Halbi met with Khairy Jamaluddin during the ASEAN+ Young Leaders Summit in order to tighten relationship between Brunei and Malaysia, to find ways to improve youth development and sports in both countries. [15] During an official televised announcement by the Sultan on 30 January 2018, it became known that Halbi had been appointed the Second Minister in the Ministry of Defence. [16]
In response to the 2017–2018 North Korea crisis on 11 February 2018, Minister Halbi and Erywan Yusof agreed with Taro Kono to apply pressure on North Korea, including the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolutions during the 45th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation. [17] Later on 14 August, he made an introductory visit to Singapore, meeting Ng Eng Hen with the aim to strengthen the relationships of Brunei and Singapore. [18] The 16th International Monitoring Team (IMT) in Mindanao was greeted by Minister Halbi at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in the Philippines, during his visit to Manila on 30 August 2019. [19]
In June 2022, during the national cabinet reshuffle televised by the Sultan, Halbi was appointed the newly incumbent Minister at the Prime Minister's Office. [20] Japan's Defence Minister Nobuo Kishi congratulated Halbi on his newly appointed position, followed up by raising concerns on regional security, the issues caused by the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine in international order, and strengthening of relationships between the two nations militarily on 21 June 2022. [21] [ failed verification ] As the acting Minister of Health on 25 July, he noted the downward trend in COVID-19 cases in Brunei. [22]

The Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), natively known as Tentera Laut Diraja Brunei (TLDB) is the naval force of Brunei. It is a small but relatively well-equipped military force whose main responsibility is to conduct search and rescue missions, and to deter and defend the Brunei waters against attack mounted by seaborne forces.
The Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF), natively known as Tentera Darat Diraja Brunei (TDDB) is the land component of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) or Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei (ABDB). The RBLF has responsibility for maintaining the territorial defence of Brunei Darussalam, both from attack from outsiders, and by assisting the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) in maintaining law and order. The annual anniversary ceremony of RBLF's inception was place on 4 November every year.

Pengiran Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud is a Bruneian nobleman and military officer, who previously served as the tenth Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) from 2018 until 2020. He was previously the ninth Commander of the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF).

Officially known as Royal Brunei Air Force Base, Rimba, commonly known as Rimba Air Force Base, occasionally known as Rimba Airbase, and informally abbreviated Rimba AFB; it is the military headquarters and main operating airbase of the Royal Brunei Air Force. It is located near the Bruneian village of Kampong Rimba, opposite, and sharing its main runway of 3,685 metres with the Brunei International Airport (BIA), at Bandar Seri Begawan, in the Brunei-Muara District of the sultanate of Brunei Darussalam.
Aminuddin Ihsan bin Haji Abidin is a retired Bruneian commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) who serves from 2009 until 2014 and also the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) from 2018 until 2022. Additionally, he led the first Bruneian contingent attached to the International Monitoring Team (IMT) in Mindanao.
Hamzah bin Haji Sahat is a retired Bruneian airman and the 11th Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) who served in post from September 2020 until his retirement in March 2022. He previously held the position as the commander of the Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF) from 2018 to 2020.
Muhammad Haszaimi bin Bol Hassan is a Bruneian military officer who currently holds the position as the 12th Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) since 2022. He previously held the position of the 11th Commander of the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF) from 2020 to 2022.
Mohammad Sharif bin Haji Ibrahim is a Bruneian airman who is the current commander of the Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF) since 28 August 2020. He became the first commanding officer (CO) of the Officer Cadet School (OCS), Defence Academy Royal Brunei Armed Forces, programme manager at the Centre of Science and Technology Research and Development (CSTRAD), and the country's first defence attaché in Washington, D.C. in the United States.
Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit is a retired Bruneian military officer and politician. He previously served as the ninth Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) from 2014 to 2015. He was also the Deputy Minister of Defence from 2015 to 2018.
Tutong Camp is one of the military bases of the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF), and it is also home to the RBLF Second Battalion (2Bn). The RBLF have two garrisons of army and military police stationed in the Tutong District, namely the Tutong and Penanjong Camp, as well as a shooting range in Binturan.
Bolkiah Garrison, also referred to as Bolkiah Camp from its original name, is one of the military bases in Mukim Berakas 'A', Bandar Seri Begawan. It contains the main building for the Ministry of Defence (MinDef), and is also the headquarters of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF). International defence collaborations, meetings and bilateral exercises are planned and considered within this military base.
Shari bin Ahmad is a Bruneian nobleman and soldier whom became the fifth Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) from 1999 until 2001, and the second Commander of the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF) from 1994 until 1999.
Mohd Jaafar bin Haji Abdul Aziz is a Bruneian nobleman, businessman and military officer who served as the third Commander of the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF) from 1999 until 2001, and the sixth Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) from 2001 to 2003.

The Training Institute Royal Brunei Armed Forces, natively known as Institut Latihan Angkatan Tentera Diraja Brunei is a military training establishment of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), primarily for enlisted male and female recruit training, along with technical and junior leadership courses for non-commissioned officers (NCOs). It is currently located within Penanjong Garrison, Tutong TA2741, approximately 50 kilometres from Bandar Seri Begawan in the sultanate of Brunei. Approximately one-hundred courses are available per year. The annual anniversary ceremony of TI RBLF's inception was place on 7 April every year.
The Joint Force Headquarters of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Markas Angkatan Bersama Angkatan Tentera Diraja Brunei, is a combined military command that was established expressly to oversee all joint operations activities of the service branches of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. At least three services, including the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF), Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), and Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF), participate in joint operations.
