Halfdan is a significant oil and gas field in the south-western part of the Danish sector of the southern North Sea. The field has been in production since 1999. The Sif and Igor fields are satellites to Hallfdan.
The Halfdan field comprises the contiguous Halfdan, Sif and Igor fields in Blocks 5505/13 and 5505/16 of the North Sea. [1] The Sif and Igor fields are respectively to the north and east of the Halfdan field, but are exploited through the Halfdan offshore infrastructure. [1] The south west of the field contains oil of the Maastrichian layers and the north and east area has gas of the Danian era. Key parameters of the fields are given in the table.

The Halfdan field is currently owned jointly by TotalEnergies, Nordsofonden, and BlueNord. It was formerly operated by Maersk and is currently operated by Total E&P Denmark. [3]
The Halfdan, Sif and Igor fields are exploited by three offshore installations Halfdan A, Halfdan B and Halfdan C, which were installed and came into operation sequentially. The A and B installations are manned multi-platform bridge-linked facilities. And Halfdan C is an unmanned satellite of the B complex. In addition to the offshore installations there are a number of pipelines connecting and transferring fluids within the Halfdan field and to adjacent fields which act as oil and gas export routes. [1] [2]

Halfdan A and B have their own power supplies but are also interconnected. Halfdan C receives power from Halfdan B complex. [1]
Oil and gas from the reservoir are produced via a number of wells. In addition water injection is used to sweep oil towards the oil production wells. [1] [2]

Plans for future development of the field include: the Halfdan Ekofisk infills; HCA gas lift; Halfdan Tor NE infill; and Halfdan Northeast project. [3]
It has been estimated that the field will remain economically viable until 2035. [3]
In the oil industry, waterflooding or water injection is where water is injected into the oil reservoir, to maintain the pressure, or to drive oil towards the wells, and thereby increase production. Water injection wells may be located on- and offshore, to increase oil recovery from an existing reservoir.
The Brent field was an oil and gas field located in the East Shetland Basin of the North Sea, 186 kilometres (116 mi) north-east of Lerwick in the Shetland Islands, Scotland, at a water depth of 140 metres (460 ft). The field operated by Shell UK Limited was discovered in 1971 and was once one of the most productive parts of the UK's offshore assets but has reached the stage where production is no longer economically viable. Decommissioning of the Brent field is complete with the exception of Brent C, which is producing from another field. The discovery well 211/26-1 was drilled in 1971 by the semi-submersible drilling rig "Staflo". This was a major surprise at the time as the nearest land in Scotland and Norway is composed of granite and other non reservoir metamorphic rocks.
An oil production plant is a facility which processes production fluids from oil wells in order to separate out key components and prepare them for export. Typical oil well production fluids are a mixture of oil, gas and produced water. An oil production plant is distinct from an oil depot, which does not have processing facilities.
Peregrino is an oil field located offshore of Brazil, east of Rio de Janeiro, in the southwest part of the Campos Basin area with about 2.3 billion barrels of oil in place within the sanctioned area. The oil field was discovered in 2004 and was formerly known as Chinook.
Yme is an oil field in the Egersund basin area in the central part of the North Sea. It is located 160 kilometres (99 mi) northeast of the Ekofisk oil field. The water depth is 93 metres (305 ft). The field was discovered in 1987 and was developed by Statoil with production from 1996 to 2001. In 2001 low oil prices led to the abandonment of the field. After the production license was relinquished by Statoil, a new license group led by Talisman Energy was formed to redevelop the field. In 2007 Talisman was granted permission to redevelop the field. The redevelopment was unsuccessful and the newly installed Yme MOPU STOR was abandoned and decommissioned without having entered production. A new attempt called the Yme New Development was launched by the new operator Repsol, which involved reusing the subsea installations already in place. The Yme field began producing again in 2021, marking the first time that a previously abandoned Norwegian oil field has been restarted.
The Al Shaheen Oil Field is a production oil and gas field off the north east coast of Qatar in the Persian Gulf, 80 kilometres (50 mi) north of Doha. The oil field lies above the North Gas Field, one of the largest gas fields in the world. The field has been operated by Maersk Oil Qatar AS of Denmark until July 2017 under a production sharing agreement with QatarEnergy, on behalf of the state of Qatar. As of June 2016, QatarEnergy and the French major TotalEnergies established a new company known as North Oil Company. The new company is 70% owned by QatarEnergy and 30% by TotalEnergies. North Oil Company took over field operations on 14 July 2017.
The Hutton oil field, located on the UK continental shelf, was the location for the first ever production Tension Leg Platform (TLP).
Tyra Field is the largest gas condensate field in the Danish Sector of the North Sea. It was discovered in 1968 and production started in 1984. The field is owned by Dansk Undergrunds Consortium, a partnership between Total, Noreco and Nordsofonden, and operated by Total. The reservoir depth is about 2,000 metres (6,600 ft) and it covers area of 90 kilometres (56 mi) in the water depth of 37–40 metres (121–131 ft). The Tyra field has a number of satellite fields, including Roar, Svend and Tyra Southeast fields.
Gorm is a natural gas and oilfield in the Danish Sector of North Sea. It was discovered in 1971 and is the largest oilfield exploited by Denmark. The production infrastructure consists of five bridge-linked platforms and is operated by BlueNord. The facilities include two wellhead platforms and several processing platforms. The Rolf and Dagmar fields are satellites to Gorm.
Gannet is an oil and gas field located in the United Kingdom's continental shelf in the North Sea. It is 180 km (110 mi) east of Aberdeen, and the water depth at the Gannet offshore installation is 95 m (312 ft). The field is located in Blocks 22/21, 22/25, 22/26 and 21/30. It is half-owned by Royal Dutch Shell (50%) and partly by ExxonMobil (50%) and has been operated by Shell UK Ltd since ‘first oil’ in November 1993. The Gannet A installation is the host platform for subsea tiebacks designated Gannet B to G. Like most Shell fields in the central and northern North Sea the field is named after a sea bird the gannet.
The Dan oil field is a large oil and associated gas field in the Danish sector of the North Sea, about 200 kilometres (120 mi) west of Esbjerg. Oil and gas are produced through a complex of offshore installations. The Kraka and Regnar fields are satellites to the Dan installations.
The L4-L7 gas fields are significant natural gas producing fields in the Netherlands sectors L4 and L7 of the North Sea. They are operationally one complex which started producing gas from the L7 main platform hub in 1977 and was still partly operational in 2021.
Alwyn North is a major oil and gas field in the United Kingdom sector of the northern North Sea, 160 km east of the Shetland Islands. The field was developed through two bridge-linked offshore platforms and a number of subsea satellite wellheads. Alwyn North has been producing oil and gas since 1987 and is still (2023) in operation.
The Beryl oil field is a major crude oil production field in the UK sector of the northern North Sea, 335 km north east of Aberdeen. Production of oil started in 1976 and the field is still producing oil and gas (2021).
The Clipper gas field is a major natural gas reservoir and gas production facility in the UK sector of the southern North Sea. The field is located about 73 km north-north-east of Bacton, Norfolk; the Clipper production facility has operated since 1990.
The Skjold oil field is a crude oil and associated gas production field in the Danish sector of the central North Sea, close to the Danish-German median line. Production of oil started in 1982, peak oil was achieved in 1991 and production is expected to continue until 2038.
The Siri oil field and its satellites, Nini and Cecille, are oil producing fields in the Danish sector of the southern North Sea. Operating since 1999 and 2003 they are the most northerly of Denmark's offshore oil assets located close to the Denmark-Norway median line.
The Valdemar oil and gas field is a crude oil and gas production field in the Danish sector of the central North Sea. Production of oil and gas started in 1993, peak oil was achieved in 2009 and peak gas in 2010. Production was suspended in 2019.
The South Arne field is a major crude oil and associated gas production field in the Danish sector of the central North Sea. Production of oil and gas started in 1999, and peak oil and gas was in 2000.
