Halima Alima Daud is a Malawian politician and deputy health minister.
Daud was born in southern Malawi in Nsanje. [1]
She is based in Dowa [1] and she was first elected to parliament in 2009 [2] when 21% of the MPs were women. [3] She lost her Dowa South East seat in 2014. [4]
She stood for re-election in the 2019 Malawian general election for her former parliamentary seat with the support of the Malawi Congress Party. [5] Five MPs in Dowa failed to be re-elected but Daud and fellow former deputy minister Abel Kayembe both won back their seats. [4]
In July 2020 President Lazarus Chakwera appointed Khumbize Chiponda as minister of health. [6] [7] Khumbize Chiponda's appointment prompted some accusations of favouritism and nepotism. [8] Daud was one of eight appointed deputy ministers. Chrissie Kanyasho was the deputy at the Ministry of Health and Daud was assigned to the Ministry of Local Government. [6]
In 2022 Daud was the deputy health minister. In May she went to Rwanda for a week to see their work. [9] In January 2024 she was looking at the effects of giving micro grants as used in Rwanda. [10] At the end of 2024 she spent a week assisting experts who were assessing the overall capabilities of Malawi's health system. This was the second "Joint External Examination" and medical leads were being encouraged to assist. Malawi had faced circumstances that had challenged the medical facilities [11] including cyclone Freddy which had killed hundreds and outbreaks of Cholera had caused half a million vaccinations [12] and this was on top of the COVID-19 pandemic. This study was intended to identify areas where further work was required. [11]
Dowa is a town located in the Central Region of Malawi. It is the administrative capital of Dowa District. William Kamkwamba, author of The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind: Creating Currents of Electricity and Hope, was born and raised in Dowa.

Vera Kamtukule is a Malawian author, writer, publisher, activist and politician, who holds a ministerial position in the Cabinet of Malawi. Vera Kamtukule was appointed Minister of Tourism on 31 January 2023. Until her current appointment Vera served as the Minister of Labour since 26 January 2022 and as deputy Minister of Labour following the 2020 Malawian presidential election. In 2021 Vera Kamtukule assumed her role as Chair of the SADC Employment and Labour Sector.
Timothy Mtambo of Chitipa is a Malawian politician and serves as Minister of Civic Education and National Unity in Malawi government since 2020. Prior to active politics, Mtambo was a human rights activist. He is mostly known for the role he played by leading demonstrations against the regime of President Peter Mutharika, accusing the regime of nepotism and corruption. Mtambo also holds the position of Commander in Chief of Citizen for Transformation Movement (CFT).

Zikomo Presidential Awards are Malawian awards established in 2021 by the president of Malawi, Lazarus Chakwera, to celebrate organisations, individuals and entertainers and other minorities in music, film, philanthropy and fashion. The 2023 awards ceremony took place in Lilongwe at Kamuzu Palace. During the ceremony, the president said that the awards were appropriate to honor some of the country's outstanding social enterprises as well as social entrepreneurs that provide solutions to some of the challenges the country faces.
