The Houston Cougars men's basketball team represents the University of Houston in Houston, Texas, in the NCAA Division I men's basketball competition. They compete as members of the Big 12 Conference. The program has made six appearances in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament Final Four, which is the most of any team who has not won a national championship.

The school's team currently competes in the Southern Conference. They are currently led by head coach Bob Richey and play their home games at the Timmons Arena. In 2018, the Paladins entered the College Basketball AP Poll for the first time in program history, coming in at number 23 on December 10. Furman made an appearance in the NCAA Division I Tournament in 2023 after having last appeared in 1980, the 43-year absence being the 15th longest drought in NCAA Division I Tournament history. During that tournament Furman would upset 4 seeded Virginia in the first round.

David Six is the former head coach of the Hampton Pirates women's basketball team. Before joining the Pirates in 2009, Six started his head coaching tenure at Hampton High School as their girls basketball coach from 1993 to 1995. At Hampton, Six reached the semi-finals of the 1995 Virginia High School League tournament for Group AAA teams. Six then coached boys basketball at Gloucester High School from 1995 to 1997. After returning to the girls basketball team at Hampton in 1998, Six remained at Hampton High until 2008. As their coach, Six and Hampton High won the Group AAA championship in girls basketball during 2001 and 2007.
