Han Song (19 August 1947 –22 January 2024) was a South Korean academic who was professor of Gangneung-Wonju National University in the department of dentistry. He also served as the university's president from 2003 to July 2011. [1] Han died on 22 January 2024,at the age of 76. [2]
Gangwon State is a Special Self-Governing Province of South Korea and the least densely populated subdivision of the country. The Yeongdong Expressway is an expressway in South Korea. Numbered 50,it connects the Seoul area with Gangwon Province. It is named from Yeongdong,an old name for Gangwon. The road has its western end in Namdong-gu of Incheon Metropolitan City. Its eastern end lies in Gangneung near the east coast. From Incheon to Gangneung,the expressway covers 234.39 kilometers.

Operation Killer was a military operation that marked the start of the second major counter offensive which United Nations Command (UN) forces launched against the Chinese Communist People's Volunteer Army (PVA) and the North Korean Army (KPA) during the Korean War. The offensive lasted from 20 February to 6 March 1951 and was formulated by General Matthew Ridgway with the goal of annihilating enemy forces south of a line designated the Arizona Line. The operation was immediately followed by Operation Ripper.

The Gyeonggang Line (경강선) is a rail line in South Korea,which at present comprises two distinct sections. The first one,which opened on September 24,2016,is part of the Seoul Metropolitan Subway system in Gyeonggi-do,South Korea,and runs from the city of Seongnam to Yeoju City,partially coinciding with the route of the former narrow-gauge Suryeo Line. The second section,which is located entirely in Gangwon Province,runs between Gangneung and Wonju and opened on December 22,2017,in anticipation of the 2018 Winter Olympics. This section of the line offers KTX service from Seoul,through the Jungang Line. In the future,the two sections are to be connected,and the Gyeonggang Line will be extended westwards to Siheung.
The Korean Air Lines YS-11 hijacking occurred on 11 December 1969. The aircraft,a Korean Air Lines NAMC YS-11 flying a domestic route from Gangneung Airbase in Gangneung,Gangwon,South Korea to Gimpo International Airport in Seoul,was hijacked at 12:25 PM by North Korean agent Cho Ch'ang-hŭi (조창희). It was carrying four crewmembers and 46 passengers;39 of the passengers were returned two months later,but the crew and seven passengers remained in North Korea. The incident is seen in the South as an example of the North Korean abductions of South Koreans.

Seowonju station,is a railway station in Jijeong-myeon,Wonju,South Korea. It is served by the Gangneung Line and Jungang Line. The station belongs to Jungang Line opened on 25 September 2012. The Gangneung Line opened on December 22,2017,ahead of the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.
