VNU is one of two Vietnam's national universities, ranked 201–250th in Asia by the QS ASIA University Rankings 2020. In 2020, it was one of the first two Vietnamese universities to be included in the QS Global Ranking of Top 150 universities under 50 years old by 2021.

Nguyễn Mạnh Tường (1909–1997) was a Vietnamese lawyer and intellectual. He was known to be one of the active participators in the Nhân Văn affair in the mid-1950s which saw many intellectuals demanding freedom and democracy in communist-led North Vietnam. After he criticised the disastrous land reform campaign in 1956, he was stripped of all positions he held in the government and was forced to retire from practicing law.

Founded on October 23, 1896, Quốc Học - Huế is the third oldest high school in Vietnam. The school is recognized for its strong academic results, students' qualities and staffs' levels. For a long time, Quốc Học – Huế has always been ranked in the top three high schools in the nation in terms of the quality of education. Other schools include Chu Van An High School in Hanoi and Lê Hồng Phong High School in Ho Chi Minh City. The school is also famous for the notable political leaders who graduated from it, and Ho Chi Minh who was dismissed from it in 1908 for revolutionary activities.
Foreign Language Specialized School, commonly known as FLSS or CNN, is a national public magnet high school/university-preparatory school in Hanoi, Vietnam. A part of VNU University of Languages and International Studies, the school is one of the four national gifted high schools in Hanoi, along with the HNUE Gifted High School, the VNU-HUS High School for Gifted Students, and the Social Science and Humanities Gifted High School. Currently, FLSS is Vietnam's only high school specialized in teaching foreign languages. Students can also choose to study Italian and Spanish as a second language. Similar to other national magnet high schools, FLSS is recognized for its strong academic programs and its vast majority (98-100%) of graduates attending the most prestigious universities in Vietnam and abroad.
Chu Van An High School, also known as Chu Van An National School or Pomelo School one of the three national high schools for the gifted in Vietnam along with Quoc Hoc High School in Huế and Le Hong Phong High School in Ho Chi Minh City.
