The Hans Oeschger Medal is an award bestowed by the European Geosciences Union (EGU) to recognise scientists who have made "outstanding achievements in ice research and/or short term climatic changes (past, present, future)." The award was established by the European Geophysical Society (EGS) in recognition of the scientific achievements of Professor Hans Oeschger. [1] It was awarded by the EGS in 2002 and 2003, and subsequently by the EGU.

Michael Evan Mann is an American climatologist and geophysicist. He is the director of the Center for Science, Sustainability & the Media at the University of Pennsylvania. Mann has contributed to the scientific understanding of historic climate change based on the temperature record of the past thousand years. He has pioneered techniques to find patterns in past climate change and to isolate climate signals from noisy data.

Hans Oeschger was a Swiss climatologist. He founded the Division of Climate and Environmental Physics at the Physics Institute of the University of Bern in 1963 and was the director until his retirement in 1992.

Françoise Gasse was a French paleobiologist, paleoclimatologist and paleohydrologist. She specialized in environmental phenomena and more specifically the study of lacustrine sediments from ancient lakes in Africa and Asia region. F. Gasse had special impact in starting the first research projects that aim at rebuilding paleoclimatic variations and Quaternary paleoenvironments in different regions and precisely: the Sahara and the Sahel, East Africa and Madagascar, Western (Caspian) and Southern (Tibet), and in the Middle East (Lebanon). She was a member of PAGES / The International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme.
Kim M. Cobb is an American climate scientist. She is Professor of Environment and Society and Professor of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences at Brown University, where she directs the Institute at Brown for Environment and Society. Cobb was previously a professor in the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology. She is particularly interested in oceanography, geochemistry and paleoclimate modeling.

The Milutin Milankovic Medal is an annual award in Earth science presented by the European Geosciences Union (EGU). The award was introduced in 1993 by the European Geophysical Society (EGS). After a merger with the European Union of Geosciences in 2003, the award has been given by the Climate: Past, Present and Future Division. The medal is awarded to scientists for outstanding research in the field of long-term climate change and modeling. It is named after the Serb geophysicist Milutin Milanković in recognition of his academic and editorial services.
Véronique Dehant is a Belgian geodesist and geophysicist. She specializes in modeling the deformation of the Earth's interior in response to the planet's rotation and the gravitational forces exerted upon it by the Sun and Moon. She has used similar techniques to study Mercury, Venus, Mars and the icy satellites of the outer planets. The medal is awarded annually at the General Assembly of the European Geosciences Union since 2005. From 1983 to 2004, the Arthur Holmes Medal was awarded by the European Union of Geosciences (EUG), one of the predecessors of the EGU.
The Vilhelm Bjerknes Medal is an award presented by the European Geosciences Union that recognizes "distinguished research in atmospheric sciences". It was first awarded in 1997, to Brian Hoskins, and later recipients include the Nobel-Prize-winning oceanographer and climate scientist Klaus Hasselmann. The award is named for Norwegian pioneer of weather forecasting Vilhelm Bjerknes, whose likeness features on the medal itself, designed by sculptor József Kótai.
