Emo is a music genre characterized by emotional, often confessional lyrics. It emerged as a style of hardcore punk and post-hardcore from the mid-1980s Washington, D.C. hardcore scene, where it was known as emotional hardcore or emocore. The bands Rites of Spring and Embrace, among others, pioneered the genre. In the early-to-mid 1990s, emo was adopted and reinvented by alternative rock, indie rock, punk rock, and pop-punk bands, including Sunny Day Real Estate, Jawbreaker, Cap'n Jazz, and Jimmy Eat World. By the mid-1990s, Braid, the Promise Ring, and the Get Up Kids emerged from Midwest emo, and several independent record labels began to specialize in the genre. Meanwhile, screamo, a more aggressive style of emo using screamed vocals, also emerged, pioneered by the San Diego bands Heroin and Antioch Arrow. Screamo achieved mainstream success in the 2000s with bands like Hawthorne Heights, Silverstein, Story of the Year, Thursday, the Used, and Underoath.
Thursday is an American post-hardcore band formed in New Brunswick, New Jersey, in 1997. The band consists of Geoff Rickly, Tom Keeley, Steve Pedulla, Tim Payne (bass), and Tucker Rule (drums).

Their second studio album, On Your Side, was released on October 13, 2009. Wild & Free was released as their third studio album on March 26, 2013. In 2013, the group split up, but returned for a one-off performance in 2017.

"Summer Paradise" is a song by Canadian rock band Simple Plan, featuring Somali-Canadian rapper K'Naan or Jamaican reggae artist Sean Paul. It was released on December 13, 2011, in Australia as the third official single from their fourth studio album, Get Your Heart On! (2011). It was written by Emanuel Kiriakou, Keinan Warsame and the band and produced by Brian Howes. The song is a reggae and ska punk-based track and it was inspired by the band vocalist's hobby of surfing. It was released in Australia with an accompanying music video with shots of the "Get Your Heart On Tour!" and scenes of the band in Barbados and on the beach. The track was released in the United Kingdom as the lead single.
Nicholas Bernard Santino is an American musician, singer-songwriter. He is best known as the lead singer and guitarist for the alternative rock band Beach Weather and former frontman of pop rock band A Rocket to the Moon. ARTTM albums included Your Best Idea (2006), On Your Side (2009) and Wild and Free (2013). After the band broke up in 2013, he went on to pursue a solo career and has released numerous solo EPs and a full-length album, Big Skies, which was released on May 27, 2014. In 2015, he formed the group Beach Weather.
Household is an American melodic punk and "indie-coated emo" band from Minneapolis, Minnesota, formed in August 2013. The band's members are Joshua Gilbert, Matthew Anthony (drums), and Nathanael Olson (guitar).

First released in 2016 from their EP, Chit Chat, the song began going viral via social media in early 2022, leading to its servicing to radio and eventual chart run. The song topped the Billboard Alternative Airplay chart and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America in 2023.
