Hardcore for Syria is a punk and hardcore punk compilation album put together with 30 bands from around the world. It was released as a free download by Hardcore4Syria, an online media awareness project established to support the victims of the humanitarian crisis in Syria.

Hardcore punk is a punk rock music genre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. It is generally faster, harder, and more aggressive than other forms of punk rock. Its roots can be traced to earlier punk scenes in San Francisco and Southern California which arose as a reaction against the still predominant hippie cultural climate of the time. It was also inspired by Washington D.C. and New York punk rock and early proto-punk. Hardcore punk generally disavows commercialism, the established music industry and "anything similar to the characteristics of mainstream rock" and often addresses social and political topics with "confrontational, politically-charged lyrics".

Anarcho-punk is an ideological subgenre of punk rock that promotes anarchism. Some use the term broadly to refer to any punk music with anarchist lyrical content, which may figure in crust punk, hardcore punk, folk punk, and other styles.

Punk-O-Rama was the title given to a series of ten compilation albums published by Epitaph Records. The first volume was released in 1994, the second in 1996, and the rest annually from 1998 to 2005. The albums included artists from Epitaph's roster as well as from its subsidiary label ANTI- and its partnership labels Hellcat Records and Burning Heart Records. In total the series included 257 songs contributed by 88 different artists.

Mathcore is a subgenre of hardcore punk and metalcore influenced by post-hardcore, extreme metal and math rock that developed during the 1990s. Bands in the genre emphasize complex and fluctuant rhythms through the use of irregular time signatures, polymeters, syncopations and tempo changes. Early mathcore lyrics were addressed from a realistic worldview and with a pessimistic, defiant, resentful or sarcastic point of view.

Christian punk is a form of Christian music and a subgenre of punk rock which contain Christian lyrical content. Much disagreement persists about the boundaries of the subgenre, and the extent that their lyrics are explicitly Christian varies among bands. For example, the Crucified explicitly rejected the classification of "Christian punk" while staying within the Christian music industry.

Anti Cimex were a Swedish crust punk band, based in Skövde, Gothenburg, Linköping, and Malmö, at different times, that formed in 1981. They were one of the first bands to define Scandinavian hardcore punk. Their second 7-inch is considered to be a subgenre-defining D-beat record. Scene historian Peter Jandreus describes the group as the most famous Swedish punk band of the 1977–1987 era.

Homy Hogs were a Swedish punk band formed in Bro, Upplands-Bro Municipality, in 1979, and were active until 1988 with some breaks. They are considered true Swedish pioneers in hardcore punk together with bands like Anti Cimex, Mob 47 and Headcleaners. This foremost considers their first releases, the album Nöje For Nekrofiler from 1981, the cassette Ljudfientlighet from the same year, and the EP Smash Overdose from 1982. Thereafter, the band played more regular punk rock and other styles. They also made some recordings and an album under the bandname Werewolves on Wheels, taken from the title of their second album, idea-influenced by various concept albums. Homy Hogs are also known as characters in cartoonist Joakim Lindengren's comics. The first album Nöje för nekrofiler was recorded and produced in 1981 by Mats “Subbe” Söderberg and released on the band's DIY label No Records. LT and Gordis later started the record label Burn Records and ran it together with Fredrik Lindgren. The original drummer Palle Krüger has played with different bands in Norway after his time in the Homy Hogs, made solo albums, and also been a session musician, among others with Staffan Hellstrand.

Young Hearts is a compilation album by the Steve Miller Band released in September 2003 by Capitol Records. It is the first single-disc career-spanning compilation for the band, including material from their earliest days through their latest album. The album charted at number 37 on Billboard 200 and it peaked at number 93 in the Netherlands.

"Demons" are a punk rock/garage punk group from Sweden. The band includes quotation marks in their name to differentiate themselves from other bands with a similar name. Their music has been described as "punk 'n' roll", but the band claims it should only be described as high-energy rock. Their musical style relies heavily on the energy derived from punk rock. Influences include 1960s garage rock bands such as The Sonics, The Standells and Shadows of Knight, The Velvet Underground, The Stooges and New York Dolls; and punk rock bands such as The Damned, Misfits, The Heartbreakers and The Saints; and early hardcore punk bands such as Black Flag, Bad Brains and Dead Kennedys. "Demons" has often been compared to contemporary groups like New Bomb Turks, The Hellacopters and Electric Frankenstein.

Punk rock and hardcore punk have created a punk subculture in Sweden since punk music became popular in the 1970s. Punk came to Sweden in the spring of 1977; the event credited as the beginning of the punk movement in Sweden was a one-day festival lined up with Sex Pistols, The Clash, Ramones, and Television.

Hardcore Breakout USA Volume 1,2,3,... is an internationally distributed compilation album that collects Volumes 1,2 and 3 of Hardcore Breakout USA series. It features American and UK artists mostly that are on New Red Archives records. Volume 1 was originally released in 1990 as a double LP and cassette, but was then subsequently also released as a CD. The New Red Archives pressing of the album was issued as a single LP in 1990. The Japanese version of Volume 1 was compiled and released in 1994. The second version Hardcore Breakout USA Volume 2 was compiled and released in 1995. Volume 2 is a compilation album of American and UK artists mostly that are on New Red Archives records.
