Harpalus fuscipennis is a species of ground beetle in the subfamily Harpalinae. [1] It was described by Wiedemann in 1825. [1]
Harpalus, son of Machatas, was a Macedonian aristocrat and childhood friend of Alexander the Great in the 4th century BC. Harpalus was repeatedly entrusted with official duties by Alexander and absconded with large sums of money on three occasions. Alexander appointed him treasurer of his empire in Babylon in 330 BC. In 324 BC he fled from Babylon to Athens with a large sum of money. The resulting political controversy in Athens was a contributing factor in the Lamian War.
The subfamily Microdontinae contains slightly more than 400 species of hoverflies and, while diverse, these species share several characteristics by which they differ from other syrphids. The Microdontinae are myrmecophiles, meaning they live in the nests of ants. Larval Microdontinae are scavengers or predators in ant nests, and, in contrast to other syrphid larvae, have no readily apparent body segmentation. Some species also do not exhibit the typical adult flower-visiting behaviour of other hoverflies, but instead remain near their larval host colonies.
Hover flies of the genus Microdon are unusual among the Diptera. Like other members of the subfamily, they are myrmecophiles, meaning they inhabit the nests of ants.
Harpalus is a genus of ground beetle first described by Pierre André Latreille in 1802.

Palpada is a genus of 85 neotropical and nearctic flower flies or hoverflies This genus is often colorful and bee-like. It is in the tribe Eristaliini containing dozens of genera Common sister genera include Eristalis (99 species), Meromacrus (43 sp.), Eristalinus (100 sp.) and Helophilus (50 sp.). The genus palpada is distinguished by:
Macrocheilus is a genus of beetles in the family Carabidae, containing the following species:
Pterostichinae is a subfamily of ground beetles. It belongs to the advanced harpaline assemblage, and if these are circumscribed sensu lato as a single subfamily, Pterostichinae are downranked to a tribe Pterostichini. However, as the former Pterostichitae supertribe of the Harpalinae as loosely circumscribed does seem to constitute a lineage rather distinct from Harpalus, its core group is here considered to be the present subfamily and the Harpalinae are defined more narrowly.
Harpalus lumbaris is a species of ground beetle in the subfamily Harpalinae. It was described by Mannerheim in 1825.
Harpalus erosus is a species of ground beetle in the subfamily Harpalinae. It was described by Mannerheim in 1825.
Harpalus tarsalis is a species of ground beetle in the subfamily Harpalinae. It was described by Mannerheim in 1825.
Sepedon is a genus of flies in the family Sciomyzidae, the marsh flies or snail-killing flies.
Harpalini is a tribe of a diverse group of ground beetles belonging to the subfamily Harpalinae within the broader family Carabidae. The tribe contains more than 1,900 species.
Dasypogon is a genus of robber flies in the family Asilidae. There are at least 80 described species in Dasypogon.
Salentia is a genus of flies belonging to the family Therevidae.
Erioneura is a genus of biting horseflies of the family Tabanidae.
Chordonota is a genus of flies in the family Stratiomyidae.
