Harriet Businge (born 12 October 1980) is a Ugandan professional teacher, politician and legislator.
Busingye represents the people of Hoima district as District woman representative in the parliament of Uganda. She entered parliament after winning the 2019 Hoima woman MP by-election where her main competitor was Asinansi Nyakato of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC). [1] She is a member of the National resistance movement, the party in political leadership in Uganda under the chairmanship of HE Yoweri Kaguta Museven i, president of the republic of uganda [2] Towards the 2021 Uganda general elections, she lost the NRM flag bearer election to Beatrice Wembabazi and contested as an independent candidate in the General elections. [3]
Businge started her primary school education in Kikangara primary school sitting her Primary leaving examinations (PLE) in 1992, she later enrolled at Kyebambe Girls secondary school in Fortportal Kabarole district where she did her Uganda certificate of education in 1996. She later joined National teachers college Masindi where she graduated with an Ordinary Diploma in education in 2001 and later in life she joined Nkumba university where she graduated with a Bachelor of Education in 2007. Harriet started out her career as a director, Good Samaritan nursery and primary school in 1995, and from 2005 up to date is the director Multi constra engineering works limited. from 2007 to 2009, she acted as minister of education, youth and sports of the kingdom of Bunyoro Kitara in western Uganda, she is the executive director of the Kabalega education fund scheme a position she has held from 2009. She was a community health and self help mobiliser of Hoima district in 2011. from may to September 2018, she was Resident District Commissioner Sembabule district and has been a Member of Parliament of Uganda from September 2019 up to date. During the National Resistance Movement(NRM) party primaries in Hoima district, Businge was accused of attacking her main rival in the Woman MP race Beatrice Wembabazi. Businge's campaign team allegedly attacked Wembabazi at Runga landing site and in the scuffle that ensued, she sustained serious injuries on the head and went into coma. This prompted the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party electoral commission chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi to halt the electoral process. [6] [7]
Mary Busingye Karoro Okurut, more commonly known as Mary Karoro Okurut, is a Ugandan educator, author and politician. She is the former Cabinet Minister in Charge of General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister, in the Ugandan Cabinet. She was appointed to that position on 6 June 2016. Prior to that, from 1 March 2015 until 6 June 2016, she served as Cabinet Minister for National Security. She was appointed to that position on 1 March 2015, replacing Wilson Muruli Mukasa, who was appointed Minister of Gender and Social Issues. Between 2012 and 2015, she served as the Minister of Gender and Social Issues in the Cabinet of Uganda. She was appointed to that position in 2012. She replaced Syda Bumba, who resigned from Cabinet. Mary Karoro Okurut also serves as the elected Member of Parliament for Bushenyi District Women's Constituency. In the 2020 National resistance movement NRM party flag bearer elections, Karooro lost to Annet Katusiime Mugisha who was elected Bushenyi district woman member of parliament in the 2021 Uganda presidential and parliamentary elections.
Mariam Naigaga is a Ugandan banker, statistician and politician. She is the elected Woman Representative for Namutumba District in the 10th Parliament and is a member of NRM, the ruling political party in Uganda. She serves on the special Presidential Advisory Committee on Budget (PACOB) and is a member of the Budget Committee and the Committee on Finance, Planning and Economic Development in Parliament.
Anita Annet Among is a Ugandan accountant, lawyer and politician who is the Speaker of the 11th Parliament of Uganda since 2022. She also concurrently serves as the elected member of parliament for the Bukedea District Women Constituency, the same position she held in the 10th Parliament (2016–2021). She was in FDC party before she joined the ruling NRM where she was voted as the Deputy Speaker of the 10th Parliament.
