Haysi High School was a public high school located in Haysi, Virginia, in Dickenson County, Virginia. It is part of the Dickenson County School Division. Athletic teams compete in the Virginia High School League's A Black Diamond District in Region D. In 2015, it closed and its student body consolidated with nearby Clintwood High School to form Ridgeview High.
Haysi won the state championship for boys basketball in 1962. [1] The boys team was awarded the Marshall Johnson Sportsmanship Award for the 1997-1998 season. The Haysi girls team held the Virginia State Record for most consecutive wins with 78 from 1947 to 1951,
Haysi won 19 Black Diamond District titles and claimed 3 Region D Titles, and 5 total State Semifinals appearances. The Tigers football teams was led by James Colley, who returned to his alma mater in 1979 and took over as Head Coach in 1982. As Head Coach he won 254 games, led the Tigers to the playoffs in 22 seasons and is known throughout Southwest Virginia as an offensive mastermind, utilizing multiple formations. This offensive style has resulted in several former Haysi players being included in the VHSL record book; Jason Compton(87 Career Passing TDs), Terry Gulley (7 Passing TDs in a single game), Jamie Hackney (completions in state playoffs), Kory Bostic (38 Career Receiving TDs), Dakota Stanley(17 Receptions in a single game, 304 receiving yards in a single game, (165 Career Receptions) and Allen Owens (174 Career Extra Points). While the Haysi Football team enjoyed considerable success that was not always the case, between 1964 and 1969 the Football team lost 43 consecutive games.

Larry Darnell Fitzgerald Jr. is a former American football wide receiver. Fitzgerald played in the National Football League for 17 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. He played college football at University of Pittsburgh and was drafted by the Cardinals with the third overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft. He is widely considered by fans, coaches and peers to be one of the greatest receivers in NFL history.
Amani Askari Toomer is a former American football wide receiver and punt returner who played his entire career for the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL). He registered over 1,000 receiving yards each season from 1999 to 2003, was a member of the 2007 Giants team that won Super Bowl XLII, and holds Giants' club records with 9,497 receiving yards, 668 receptions and 54 receiving touchdowns. He also returned 109 punts for 1,060 yards and three touchdowns. As a rookie in 1996, he led the NFL with an average of 16.6 yards on 18 punt returns.
Earl Heath Miller Jr. is a former American football tight end who played professionally for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL) for 11 seasons from 2005 to 2015. Miller played college football for the University of Virginia, where he earned All-American honors and won the John Mackey Award. The Steelers selected him in the first round with the 30th overall pick of the 2005 NFL Draft.
Centreville High School (CVHS) is a public high school located in unincorporated southwestern Fairfax County, Virginia, United States, north of the town of Clifton and east of the Centreville CDP. Having opened in 1988 to serve the rapidly growing population of the Clifton/Centreville region, CVHS is the top of the Centreville High School Pyramid in Region 4 of the Fairfax County Public School (FCPS) system. In 2010 the school was ranked as the 4th best high school in Fairfax County, and the 18th best high school out of 172 schools rated in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. On a national level, in 2010 CVHS was ranked as the 130th best of all high schools in the United States.
David Dickenson is a Canadian football head coach with the Calgary Stampeders and former professional player with the Stampeders and the BC Lions where he won the 2006 Grey Cup and was named the game's MVP. Dickenson also played quarterback collegiately at the University of Montana, where he led the Montana Grizzlies to the 1995 NCAA I-AA college football championship.
Henry Armand Burris Jr. is a gridiron football coach, former professional quarterback, and a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame. He is currently an offensive quality control coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football League (NFL) and was formerly an offensive quality control coach for the Chicago Bears. Burris played in the Canadian Football League (CFL) from 1998 to 2016. He won three Grey Cup championships, two with the Calgary Stampeders, in 1998 and 2008, having spent 10 years of his career with them, and one with the Ottawa Redblacks in 2016. He was also a sports broadcaster and football analyst at TSN, appearing as a panel member on the network's CFL on TSN broadcasts.
William Percival Harvin III is a former American football wide receiver. He played college football at Florida, when the Gators won the BCS National Championship in 2006 and 2008, and was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League (NFL) in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Harvin also played for the Seattle Seahawks, New York Jets and Buffalo Bills. He was named the Associated Press Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2009 and won Super Bowl XLVIII with the Seahawks in 2013 over the Denver Broncos. He attended and played football for Landstown High School in Virginia Beach, where his team won the high school state championship in 2004.
Tallwood High School is a secondary school in southwest Virginia Beach, Virginia. It was built on the site of an old colonial plantation whose manor house was Tallwood, hence the name of the school. Tallwood was remodeled during 2004-2005.
The A Black Diamond District is a high school conference of the Virginia High School League which draws its members from the western part of Southwest Virginia. The schools in the Black Diamond District compete in A Region D with the schools of the A Cumberland District, and the A Lonesome Pine District. The district gets its name from the "black diamond," a nickname for the coal whose mining formed the backbone of the region's economy until the 1980s.
Hanover High School is a high school located in the Mechanicsville census-designated place (CDP) of unincorporated Hanover County, Virginia, United States. The school opened during the 2003–04 academic year with Carol Cash as principal. The second principal of the school was George Sadler, who took on the role when Cash retired in 2007. Sadler retired from the role at the end of the 2011–2012 school year. Dana Gresham joined the school as principal in July 2012 after serving as a principal at Rural Point Elementary School. Kristina Reece became principal in the 2015–2016 school year.
Jon Cornish is a former Canadian football running back who played nine seasons with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was drafted 13th overall in the 2006 CFL Draft after playing college football at the University of Kansas. Cornish was inducted as a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2019.
Clintwood High School (CHS) was one of three high schools in Dickenson County, Virginia, United States. It is located in Clintwood, the county seat of Dickenson County. It combined with [Haysi High School] in the 2015–2016 school year to form Ridgeview High School.
Virginia High School is a high school located in Bristol, Virginia. In 1999, Virginia High started offering the Tri-Cities area's first International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Classes from the Advanced Placement program are also offered to help students who are headed to college. A career and technical wing was added to the main school building to help students who wish to go into a trade straight from high school. Courses offered for this path include: culinary arts, cybersecurity, engineering and manufacturing, coding, business, horticulture, auto-mechanics, building trades, and nursing.
