Heidi. (stylized as heidi.) is a Japanese visual kei rock band formed in Tokyo in February 2006. [1] They gained popularity after performing at the memorial concert on the 10th anniversary of the death of the musician hide on May 4, 2008, to tens of thousands of people. Their third album was released in Europe by Gan-Shin records in 2009 and the following year Heidi. signed to major label Geneon Universal Entertainment.

History

Heidi.'s first one-man show, titled 「Birth・Day」, was on June 3, 2006. [1] Their first single, "Yuuyake to Kodomo/Maria", was also sold at that show. The following year they released their debut album, Kasou, on April 25, 2007. The label was their own O Market, which was formed by their management Headwax Organization, who also managed hide, being run by his brother Hiroshi Matsumoto. [2]

On May 4, 2008, they performed at the hide memorial summit alongside legendary bands such as X Japan, Luna Sea and others. [3] On September 21, 2008, D'erlanger held Abstinence's Door #002, where Heidi., Inoran and Merry performed.

In 2009, Heidi. went on a three-man tour called Counter Culture with lynch. and Sadie. [1] They released their third album, Panorama, on September 23. It received a European release by Gan-Shin records on October 23. On October 25, the band performed at V-Rock Festival '09, which was broadcast live worldwide on its official website. [4]

On May 26, 2010, they released their major label debut on Geneon Universal Entertainment, the single "Yokan". This song and their next single, "∞Loop", were both used as ending theme songs to the Kaichou wa Maid-sama! anime. [5] Senkou Mellow was released on October 6, and is currently their highest-charting album.

They covered hide with Spread Beaver's "Pink Spider" for the compilation Crush! -90's V-Rock Best Hit Cover Songs-, the album was released on January 26, 2011, and features current visual kei bands covering songs from bands that were important to the '90s visual kei movement. [6] Heidi.'s single "Gekkou Showtime" was used as the theme song for the movie Maebashi Visual Kei, which stars Shunsuke Kazama as a young farmer who tries to make it big in a visual kei band. [7] The band members themselves also make an appearance in the film. [7] In July 2011, Heidi. made their United States debut at the anime convention AM². [8]

They released their fifth album, Alpha, on September 19, 2012. Later in the month, they returned to the US for a performance at Anime Weekend Atlanta. [9] On November 7, Heidi. began a nationwide tour, that ended at Shibuya-AX, where each concert was broadcast live on NicoNico. [10]

On August 16, 2013, heidi. performed at an event put on by the band Angelo, alongside other acts such as Inoran, lynch. and Mucc. [11] They contributed a cover of hide's "Tell Me" to the Tribute II -Visual Spirits- tribute album, which was released on July 3, 2013. [12]

Throughout April 2014, the band went on their first European tour which included stops in Russia, Poland, Germany and Finland among others. [13] From November 7–9 they performed at the Pacific Media Expo in Los Angeles. [14]

Luna Sea is a Japanese rock band formed in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1986. Due to the use of makeup and costumes early in their career and their widespread popularity, they are considered one of the most successful and influential bands in the visual kei movement. Throughout the mid-1990s they used significantly less makeup, and after a one-year break in 1997, came back with a more mainstream alternative rock style and toned down their on-stage attire. They disbanded in 2000. In 2003, HMV Japan ranked Luna Sea at number 90 on their list of the 100 most important Japanese pop acts.

Siam Shade was a five-piece Japanese rock band, formed in Tokyo in 1991. The classic line-up of Hideki on vocals, Natchin on bass, Kazuma and Daita on guitar, and Jun-ji on drums broke onto the visual kei scene alongside a multitude of other artists in the early 1990s and enjoyed a decade of relative popularity before disbanding in early 2002. The members have reunited several times since 2007 for one-off concerts and short tours. Outside Japan, Siam Shade is best known for "1/3 no Junjō na Kanjō", which was the sixth ending theme of the Rurouni Kenshin anime. Daita's work on their song "Triptych" was named the 83rd best guitar instrumental by Young Guitar Magazine in 2019.

Hideto Matsumoto, known professionally as hide, was a Japanese musician, singer, songwriter and record producer. He achieved international fame as the lead guitarist of the rock band X Japan from 1987 to 1997 and a solo artist from 1993 onward. He also formed the United States-based rock supergroup Zilch in 1996.

They shortened their name to A9 in 2015, but switched back to Alice Nine in 2019.

Kiyonobu Inoue, better known exclusively by his stage name Inoran, is a Japanese musician, singer and songwriter. He is best known as the rhythm guitarist and co-founder of the rock band Luna Sea since 1986. He started his solo career in 1997. Luna Sea disbanded in 2000, and he formed Fake? with Oblivion Dust vocalist Ken Lloyd a year later. In 2005 he left Fake? and founded Tourbillon with Luna Sea vocalist Ryuichi Kawamura and Hiroaki Hayama. He rejoined Luna Sea when they reunited in 2010, and in 2012 formed Muddy Apes with bassist Taka Hirose and guitarist Dean Tidey, both from Feeder, and 8otto's vocalist Maeson.

It was also named "Song of the Year" at the 13th Japan Gold Disc Awards.

La'cryma Christi was a Japanese visual kei rock band originally active from 1991 to 2007. At their peak, they were considered one of "the big four of visual kei" alongside Fanatic Crisis, Malice Mizer and Shazna. They reunited for a concert in 2009 at the V-Rock Festival, for their short reunion tour in 2010, and for a 15th anniversary tour in 2012.

D'erlanger is a Japanese rock band from Kyoto Prefecture, formed in 1983 by guitarist Cipher and bassist Seela. While they originally played speed and power metal, after recruiting drummer Tetsu and vocalist Kyo they switched to a punk rock sound for their debut album La Vie En Rose in 1989. Although it was on an indie label, it sold out and was reissued three times that year, earning them a major label record deal with BMG Japan the following year. They released Basilisk in March 1990 and it reached the top five on the charts. However, in December the group suddenly announced their disbandment.

Angelo is a Japanese visual kei rock supergroup, formed in 2006 by three members of Pierrot. Originally a trio of vocalist Kirito, bassist Kohta and drummer Takeo, guitarists Karyu (ex-D'espairsRay) and Giru (ex-Vidoll) joined in 2011. After 15 years and 13 studio albums, Angelo began an indefinite hiatus following two concerts at Yoyogi Daini Taiikukan on January 15 and 16, 2022.

Screw was a Japanese visual kei rock band formed in March 2006 by vocalist Byou and Yuuto, who were previously in the band Joker before its disbandment.
