Viktor Yakovlevich Klimenko is a retired Russian gymnast. He competed for the Soviet Union at the 1968 and 1972 Olympics and won a team silver medal on each occasion. Larisa Leonidovna Petrik is a former Russian gymnast and Olympic champion. Petrik competed at the 1966 World Championships where she shared the team silver medal and earned an individual bronze medal on the beam. She also competed at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, where she received a gold medal in floor exercise, a gold medal in the team final, and a bronze medal in balance beam. Her gold medal on floor was very controversial because originally, Čáslavská won outright. After the competition was concluded, Petrik's prelims scores were changed to let her tie with Čáslavská, an action which caused Čáslavská to publicly defy the Soviets who had recently invaded her home country.
Helmut Wechselberger is an Austrian racing cyclist. He won the 1988 Tour de Suisse. He also competed in the individual road race and the team time trial events at the 1984 Summer Olympics. He won the Austrian National Road Race Championships in 1984.

Soviet dominance was unprecedented in scale and longevity and was likely the result of the country's heavy investment in mass and elite sports to fulfill its political agenda.
Helmut Schmuck is an Austrian long-distance runner from Salzburg. He competed in the men's marathon at the 1992 Summer Olympics. His personal best time of 2:13.17 was set at the Vienna City Marathon in 1990. He also is a two-time Austrian national athletic champion over 10,000 meters.
