Hendrik Lewerissa (born 2 March 1968) is an Indonesian politician who has served as Governor of Maluku since 20 February 2025,alongside Deputy Governor Abdullah Vanath. He previously served as a Member of the House of Representatives from 2019 to 2024,representing the Maluku electoral district. Lewerissa is a member of the Gerindra and served on Commission VI of the House of Representatives. He is also the Chairman of the Gerindra Regional Leadership Council (DPD) for Maluku Province. [1]
Hendrik Lewerissa was born in Ambon,Maluku. He attended Itawaka Elementary School in Central Maluku from 1974 to 1980,followed by State Junior High School No. 7 Ambon from 1980 to 1983. He graduated from State Senior High School Saparua,Central Maluku,in 1986.
He earned a Bachelor of Laws degree from Pattimura University in 1992 and later obtained a Master of Laws degree from Temple University in the United States in 1995. [2]
During his school years,Lewerissa was active in student organizations and served as Chairman of the Student Council at State Senior High School Saparua from 1985 to 1986. While studying at the Faculty of Law at Pattimura University,he was elected Chairman of the Student Representative Council from 1990 to 1992.
In party politics,Lewerissa has been an influential figure in Maluku and has served as Chairman of the Gerindra Party Regional Leadership Council (DPD) for Maluku Province since 2010.
Lewerissa began his professional career as an administrative staff member at PT Tugu Pratama Indonesia from 1995 to 2000. He later worked as an advocate and legal advisor to several oil and coal mining companies.
He entered politics by joining the Democratic Party in 2006 and remained a member until 2010. In 2010,he joined the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) and was appointed chairman of the party's Maluku provincial leadership council.
In the 2019 Indonesian legislative election,Lewerissa was elected to the House of Representatives (DPR-RI) for the 2019–2024 term,representing Maluku. During his tenure,he served on Commission VI.
After completing his term in the House of Representatives,Lewerissa ran for Governor of Maluku in the 2024 Maluku gubernatorial election,paired with Abdullah Vanath. The ticket won the election,and he was inaugurated as Governor of Maluku for the 2025–2030 term.
