High Priestess is the third studio album from heavy metal ensemble Kobra and the Lotus. Produced by Grammy Award nominee and songwriter Johnny K, the album was released on June 24, 2014. [1]

Background

The ensemble created fourteen new songs for the album [2] at Groovemaster Recording Studios. The album made its debut in the CMJ Loud Rock Radio charts in the United States at #4. [1]

Composition

A lyric video was created for "I Am, I Am". [3] The eighth video by the band, entitled "Soldier" [4] was shot in a vacated mine in British Columbia with director Lisa Mann. The production features genuine World War II arms and clothing. [5]

Critical reception

The album received praise from Get Your Rock Out writer Michael Dodd who particularly singled out the song 'Willow', calling it "a grippingly addictive highlight". Summing up the record he wrote that "With High Priestess the group can boast a true treasure, an album that is just too fun to not listen to again and again; a real force of awesome metal and one of the most addictive releases of 2014". Priestess is a Canadian rock band formed by singer/guitarist Mikey Heppner in Montreal, Quebec in 2002. Since its inception it has featured Heppner, singer/guitarist Dan Watchorn, singer/drummer Vince Nudo, and bassist Mike Dyball. Priestess were considered one of the most important bands in the early millennial "retro rock" movement, although they denied intentionally attempting to emulate the sounds of classic rock bands such as Black Sabbath and AC/DC, whom they idolized and to whom they were frequently compared.

"Lick It Up" is a song by American rock band Kiss. It is the title track to the group's 1983 album of the same name. The song was released as the album's first single, with musicians Paul Stanley and Vinnie Vincent having composed the track. It was a Top 40 hit in the United Kingdom, although it failed to chart as highly in the band's native U.S.
