Hollinsend is a tram stop on the South Yorkshire Supertram network, opened on 5 December 1994. [1] It is located on Ridgeway Road. It is next to Hollinsend Park and Recreation Ground.

History

This stop was opened along with the track section between Spring Lane and Gleadless Townend in December 1994. The line was extended further to Halfway in March 1995 and Herdings Park in April 1995. [2]

Layout

Hollinsend tram stop has two low-level side platforms, situated in a central reservation section on Ridgeway Road. [3]

At the centre of each platform, passenger information displays stand and show estimated arrival times for trams. [4] There are also two short ramps at each end of the platforms, providing step-free access for passengers. [5]

Services

The Blue route has a peak frequency of 5 trams per hour (every 12 minutes), and the Purple route runs hourly Monday−Saturday and every 30 minutes (peak frequency) on Sundays. [6]

Routes 18/18a (Sheffield InterchangeHillsborough via Meadowhall and Manor Top) run on Ridgeway Road (the road where the tram stop is in the central reservation of). [7]

The Siemens-Duewag Supertram is a fleet of 25 trams built by Siemens-Duewag of Düsseldorf, Germany in 1992 for use on the South Yorkshire Supertram light rail network in England. They were the only trams in use on the network until the entry into service of British Rail Class 399 tram-trains in 2017. As of May 2024, 24 of the fleet are operational, with one currently out of service. Tram 105 was involved in a road traffic collision (RTC) and has arrived back at the depot after repairs, but has not yet returned to service.

Gleadless Townend is an outer city district of Sheffield centred on the junction of the ring road, White Lane (B6054) and Gleadless Road (B6388).
