Holly Dunford is a British rower. She won a silver medal at the 2024 European Rowing Championships, in the coxed eight event.
From Tadworth, in Surrey, she became inspired to take up rowing after watching the 2012 London Olympics. She has two siblings, Rachel and William, both her brother and sister are rowers. She attended Heathside School and the University of Washington. [1] [2]
Dunford won gold for Great Britain at the 2017 World Rowing Junior Championships in Lithuania in 2017, alongside Zoe Adamson in the women's double. She also had with three first-place finishes in the single sculls at the GB Rowing Team Junior trials. [3] She also set a new national record for under-18s on the indoor rowing machine. [4] In December 2017 she won the SportsAid one-to-watch award. [5]
Dunford won a silver medal in the Great Britain women's eight at the 2019 World Rowing Under-23 Championships in July 2019. [6] She won gold in the Great Britain women's four at the 2021 World Rowing U23 Championships in Račice, Czechia. [7]
She made her debut in a senior British vest at the World Cup regatta in Italy in April 2024, winning silver in the four and the eight. [8] She was a silver medalist at the 2024 European Rowing Championships in Szeged, Hungary. [9] She won in the 'Sports Person of the Year' category at the Reigate and Banstead Sports Awards 2024. In June 2024, she was confirmed in the British squad for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. [11]
Sir Steven Geoffrey Redgrave is a British retired rower who won gold medals at five consecutive Olympic Games from 1984 to 2000. He has also won three Commonwealth Games gold medals and nine World Rowing Championships golds. He is the most successful male rower in Olympic history, and the only man to have won gold medals at five Olympic Games in an endurance sport.
Kathleen Joan Heddle, was a Canadian Olympic rower. She and her long-time rowing partner Marnie McBean were the first Canadians to be awarded three Olympic gold medals at the Summer Games. They also won a silver in double sculls at the 1994 World Championships.
Richard Schmidt is a German former representative sweep-oar rower. He is a six time world champion, a four time Olympian, an Olympic gold & silver medallist and held a seat in the German senior men's eight — the Deutschlandachter — constantly from 2009 to 2021. He rowed at seven when the Deutschlandachter at the 2017 World Rowing Cup II set a world's best time of 5.18.68, which was still the standing world mark as of 2021.
Magdalena Fularczyk-Kozłowska is a Polish rower. She is the 2016 Olympic double sculls champion with rowing partner Natalia Madaj. From 2009 to 2012, she rowed with Julia Michalska.
Emma Kimberley Twigg is a New Zealand rower. A single sculler, she was the 2014 world champion and won gold in her fourth Olympics in Tokyo in July 2021. Previous Olympic appearances were in 2008, 2012, and 2016. She has retired from rowing twice, first for master-level studies in Europe in 2015 and then after the 2016 Olympics, disappointed at having narrowly missed an Olympic medal for the second time. After two years off the water, she started training again in 2018 and won silver at the 2019 World Rowing Championships. Since her marriage in 2020, she has become an outspoken advocate for LGBT athletes. At the 2020 Summer Olympics, Twigg won gold in the woman's single scull.
Helen Glover is a British professional rower and a member of the Great Britain Rowing Team. Ranked the number 1 female rower in the world in 2015–16, she is a two-time Olympic champion, triple World champion, quintuple World Cup champion and quintuple European champion. She and her partner Heather Stanning were the World, Olympic, World Cup and European record holders, plus the Olympic, World and European champions in the women's coxless pairs. She has also been a British champion in both women's fours and quadruple sculls.
Maximilian Reinelt was a German rower and physician. He won a gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics, as well as two World Championships and four European Championships. In 2016, he was awarded the Silbernes Lorbeerblatt, Germany's highest sports award.
Victoria Thornley is a Welsh rower. She won a silver medal for Great Britain with Katherine Grainger in the women's double sculls at the 2016 Summer Olympics. She was also a member of the Great Britain team that finished fifth in the women's eight at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and finished fourth in the single sculls at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Polly Swann is a British rower and a member of the Great Britain Rowing Team. She is a former World and European champion in the women's coxless pairs, having won the 2013 World Rowing Championships at Chungju in Korea, and the 2014 European Rowing Championships at Belgrade, Serbia with her partner Helen Glover. At the 2016 Summer Olympics she won a silver medal in the women's eight.
Grace Elizabeth Prendergast is a former New Zealand sweep rower. She is a 15-time national champion in the premier category, an Olympic champion, a five-time world champion and the current (2022) world champion in the coxless pair. She grew up in Christchurch, where she started rowing for the Avon Rowing Club in 2007. She competed at the Tokyo Olympics in two boat classes and won gold in the coxless pair and a silver in the eight and set a new world's best time in the pair. Various parties, including the World Rowing Federation, expected her to win medals in Tokyo. She was the highest ranked female rower in the world twice in a row in 2019 and 2021. Since 2014, her rowing partner in the coxless pair has been Kerri Gowler. Prendergast is also a Boat Race winner, having competed as part of Cambridge University Boat Club's (CUBC) women's crew in 2022. She retired from professional rowing in October 2022.
Paul O'Donovan is an Irish lightweight rower. He is an Olympic gold medallist in lightweight double sculls where he set a new world's best time for that event and is a five-time world champion in single and double sculls.
Malte Jakschik is a German former representative rower. He was a three time world champion, a two time Olympic silver medallist and held a seat in the German senior men's eight — the Deutschlandachter — constantly from 2014 to 2021. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, he rowed in Germany's men's eight which won the silver medal. He rowed at six when the Deutschlandachter at the 2017 World Rowing Cup II set a world's best time of 5.18.68, which was still the standing world mark as of 2021. He rowed in the German men's eight at Tokyo 2021 and won a second Olympic silver medal.

Mathilda Kathryn R. Hodgkins-Byrne is a British rower. She won a gold medal in the double scull at the 2016 World Rowing U23 Championships. She won a bronze medal at the 2017 World Rowing Championships in Sarasota, Florida, as part of the quadruple sculls with Bethany Bryan, Jessica Leyden and Holly Nixon.
Renate Boesler, also referred to as Bösler and later as Gunkel, is a retired East German rower who won medals at European championships between 1963 and 1971. During that time, she became European Champion four times in two different boat classes.
Jake Offiler is a London born rower who, as part of the United Kingdom team, won silver in the 2018 World Rowing Junior Championships. He is also a member of Globe RC. Earlier in the 2017-18 season he was part of the Great Britain team that attended the 2018 European Rowing Junior Championships in Gravelines, France. There he won a gold medal in the double sculls, making him and his partner Great Britain's first Junior European Champions.
James Rudkin is a British national representative rower. He is a two-time world champion and an Olympic bronze medallist.
Charles Richard Jeremy Elwes is a British national representative rower. He is an Olympic medallist and two-time world champion.
