Holmen is a neighbourhood in Oslo and forms part of the district of Vestre Aker. It is situated between Hovseter in the west and Slemdal in the east, Holmenkollen in the north and Makrellbekken in the south. The name is derived from the Holmen farms.

Vestre Holmen is located west of Holmenkollveien, a secondary road in Norway's road network, extends along Arnebråtveien approximately in the north–south direction and west towards the Røa Line of Oslo Metro. Here are the housing estates of Holmenhaugen and Holmengrenda with terraced houses and detached houses. The building company Holmenbygg AS has erected 13 four-story apartment blocks in Lybekkveien, Stasjonsveien, and Holmengrenda streets.

The housing estate of the Royal Norwegian Air Force, also called Snippen, is located further up Stasjonsveien, along Landingsveien, in Luftfartsveien, Flyveien, and Pilotveien. It was designed by the architect Erling Viksjø and was built from 1948 to 1952. The housing company was formed by officers of the Norwegian air force and navy. In 1953 the housing estate was awarded Sundts premie for good architecture. It is included in the Golden list of the Oslo City Antiquarian, the manager of the city's cultural heritage.

Gressbanen, the stadium of the sports club IF Ready, is located at Holmen.

Holmen station was opened on 24 January 1935 together with the Røa Line.

Røa Line Rapid transit line in Oslo, Norway

The Røa Line is a rapid transit line of the Oslo Metro, Norway, which runs from Majorstuen in Oslo to Østerås in Bærum. It serves neighborhoods such as Smestad, Hovseter, Huseby and Røa in northwestern Oslo, and Grini, Øvrevoll and Østerås in northeastern Bærum. The line is served by Line 2 of the metro, which connects to the city center via the Common Tunnel and onwards along the Furuset Line. The lowest part of the Røa Line, consisting of two stations, is shared with the Kolsås Line, and thus also served by Line 2 of the metro. The Røa Line is owned by Kollektivtransportproduksjon, and operated by Oslo T-banedrift on contract with the public transport agency Ruter.

Common Tunnel

The Common Tunnel, sometimes called the Common Line, is a 7.3-kilometer (4.5 mi) long tunnel of the Oslo Metro which runs through the city center of Oslo, Norway. The name derives from the fact that all six lines of the metro use the tunnel, which runs from Majorstuen to Tøyen. The section has six stations, including the four busiest on the metro.

Røa (station) Oslo metro station

Røa is a station on Røa Line of the Oslo Metro, located in the Vestre Aker borough, 7.5 kilometers (4.7 mi) from Stortinget. The station is located between the stations of Hovseter and Ekraveien. The station is part of the old western suburban rail network and was opened on 24 January 1935, slightly to the west of the current location. Up until 1951 it was the terminus station, but the line was extended to Grini in 1948 and to Østerås in 1972.

Makrellbekken is a rapid transit station of the Oslo Metro's Røa Line. It is situated in the neighborhood of Makrellbekken in the Vestre Aker borough of Oslo, Norway. Located 5.4 kilometers (3.4 mi) from Stortinget, the station is served by Line 2 of the metro, normally with a fifteen-minute headway. Travel time to Stortinget is 10 minutes.

Smestad, Oslo

Smestad is an area in the borough Vestre Aker in Oslo, Norway. It is named after the Smestad Mansion, which was parcelled out for residences after the tram line was built in 1912. The district is located between north of Hoff and Skøyen, east of Montebello in Ullern, west of the Frogner Park and south of Heggeli. It is served by Smestad station.

Vinderen (station) Oslo metro station

Vinderen is a rapid transit station of the Oslo Metro's Holmenkollen Line. It is situated Vinderen neighborhood of the Oslo, Norway, borough of Vestre Aker. Located 4.2 kilometers (2.6 mi) from Stortinget, the station is served by Line 1 of the metro every fifteen minutes. Travel time to Stortinget is nine minutes. Vinderen is neighborhood center and mostly a residential area. The platforms are located on each side of a level crossing.

Roa–Hønefoss Line Railway line in Norway

The Roa–Hønefoss Line is a 32-kilometer (20 mi) long, single track railway line between Roa and Hønefoss in Norway. At Roa Station, the line connects to the Gjøvik Line, while at Hønefoss Station, it connects to the Randsfjorden Line and the Bergen Line. The line runs through Innlandet and Viken counties and allowed the Bergen Line access to Oslo at Oslo East Station.

Lilleaker Line

It is operated by Line 13 from Grefsen to Bekkestua of the Oslo Tramway, operated by Oslo Sporvognsdrift. The line continues on the Oslo Metro west of Jar as part of the Kolsås Line, and as a street tramway on the Oslo tramway system at Skøyen as the Skøyen Line.

Volvat was a rapid transit station of the Oslo Metro's Røa Line and Kolsås Line. Situated in the neighborhood of Volvat in Vestre Aker borough of Oslo, Norway, it was the sole underground station on the western part of the metro. It was located 3.4 kilometers (2.1 mi) from Stortinget.

Hovseter is a neighbourhood of Oslo, Norway, that comes under Vestre Aker kommune and lies between Røa and Holmen.

Oslo Waldorf School is a Waldorf school located in the Vestre Holmen area in the Vestre Aker district of West End Oslo, Norway. It is an integrated primary, middle and high school with around 550 pupils. Founded in 1926, it is one of the oldest Waldorf schools worldwide. It is generally regarded as one of the most prestigious schools in Norway and many of its alumni have been noted in the arts, politics and other areas of society. The school is an independent non-profit foundation governed by a board consisting of representatives of the teachers and parents, and it is a member of the Norwegian Association of Waldorf Schools.

Makrellbekken is a neighbourhood in the Oslo borough of Vestre Aker in Norway, bordering the borough of Ullern. It is located between Smestad and Holmen. The main road is Sørkedalsveien, a part of Norwegian National Road 168. The place is served by the Røa Line of Oslo Metro.
