Vestre Aker (Western Aker) is a borough of the city of Oslo, Norway. It has a population of 50,157 as of 2020. [1]

The previous Aker Municipality was merged into the city of Oslo in 1948.

The borough of Vestre Aker was organized as part of the 1 January 2004 reform. Previous boroughs Vinderen and Røa became part of the new borough of Vestre Aker. The borough of Vestre Aker does not correspond to Vestre Aker parish of the Church of Norway, that lies east of the borough. The borough of Vestre Aker belongs to Ris, Røa and Voksen parishes of the Church of Norway.

Situated in the hillside west of the city centre, Vestre Aker is known for being one of the wealthiest parts of Oslo.

Ready started playing in the Norwegian Bandy Premier League 2004–05 and has ever since.

Politics

As a borough of Oslo, Vestre Aker is governed by the city council of Oslo as well as its own borough council. The council leader is Yngvar Husebye from the Conservative Party and the deputy leader is Bård Thorheim, also of the Conservative Party. The Conservative Party has the most seats. The 15 seats are distributed among the following political parties for the 2019-2023 term: [2]

The mausoleum of Emanuel Vigeland  [ no ] is located at Slemdal. Vigeland called it Tomba Emmanuelle . [3] [4]

Ris (station) Metro station in Oslo Norway

Ris is a rapid transit station of the Oslo Metro's Holmenkollen Line. It is situated in the Ris neighborhood of the Oslo, Norway, borough of Vestre Aker. Located 5.2 kilometers (3.2 mi) from Stortinget, the station is served by Line 1 of the metro every fifteen minutes. Travel time to Stortinget is 11 minutes. The station opened on 31 May 1898. A shed was moved to the station in 1916. There are proposals to extend the platforms.

The National Hospital and several research institutes fall within the station's catchment area.

Vinderen is neighborhood center and mostly a residential area. The platforms are located on each side of a level crossing.

Gråkammen (station) Oslo metro station

Gråkammen is a station on the Holmenkollen Line of the Oslo Metro. It is located between Gulleråsen and Slemdal. The station was opened on 31 May 1898 as part of the tramway to Besserud. It derives its name from the surrounding hillocks.

Holmenkollen Chapel Church in Oslo, Norway

Holmenkollen Chapel is located in the neighborhood of Holmenkollen in the Vestre Aker borough of Oslo, Norway. The original chapel from 1903 was destroyed by arson in 1992. The new chapel was completed in 1996. Holmenkollen Chapel is a listed site, registered in Norway's cultural heritage database.

Østre Aker Church Church in Oslo, Norway

Østre Aker Church is a parish church at the neighborhood of Ulven in northeastern part of Oslo, Norway. The church building from 1860 in neo-Gothic style has exterior walls of brick, while the interior walls are covered with wood. The master masonry brothers Carl, Ferdinand and Albert Unger was commissioned to make the church the most alike Vestre Aker Church as possible. Østre Aker Church was consecrated 5 September 1860 with, among others, Prince Oscar present. Electricity was installed in 1925 and the church got chandeliers in 1928. Architect Helge Thiis was at the same time commissioned to make changes to improve the church interior.

Holmen, Oslo Neighbourhood in Oslo, Oslo, Norway

Holmen is a neighbourhood in Oslo and forms part of the district of Vestre Aker. It is situated between Hovseter in the west and Slemdal in the east, Holmenkollen in the north and Makrellbekken in the south. The name is derived from the Holmen farms.
