The Zolas are a Canadian indie rock band based in Vancouver, signed to Light Organ Records. The band was formed by duo Zachary Gray (vocals/guitar) and Tom Dobrzanski (piano/keyboards/backing vocals), with various session musicians supporting them live and on record. The album was recorded at The Armoury Studios in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 2010 and was released on 26 April 2011 by Mom + Pop Music. The thirteen songs in the album are "Dressed Sharply", "Not Mine", "Airport Death", "Know This, We've Noticed", "Trains and Tracks", "Brain on a Table", "100 Whales", "Walls", "Leave Me", "Windows in the City", "Swallow the Sea", "Tiny Skeletons" and "New Ways".

Working predominantly in rock music, Avron began working on records in 1993 and achieved his production breakthrough when he co-produced Everclear's 1997 album So Much for the Afterglow. Mario J. McNulty is an American Grammy Award-winning record producer and audio engineer based in New York City, United States. He has worked with David Bowie, Prince, Nine Inch Nails, The B-52s, Julian Lennon and many other well-known recording artists. At the 50th Annual Grammy Awards, along with artist Angélique Kidjo and producer Tony Visconti, McNulty won a Grammy in the Best Contemporary World Music category for the album Djin Djin (2007). Other Grammy-nominated albums include Homeland by Laurie Anderson in 2009 and Bowie's The Next Day in 2013.
