Veal is a Canadian indie rock band with country music influences. Originally based in Vancouver, the band later moved to Toronto, Ontario.

History

Veal was formed in Vancouver [1] in 1994. The band included guitarist Luke Doucet, [2] and drummer Chang. Early bassists in Veal include Howard Redekopp and Barry Mirochnick. In 1996 the group released their first album, Hot Loser . [3] [4]

The band played a showcase at Canadian Music Week in Toronto in 1999. [5] That year they released a second album, Tilt O'Whirl , which was recorded in Vancouver but mixed in Toronto. The band signed with music promoter Shauna de Cartier, who formed Six Shooter Records in order to release the band's work. [6] The album was included in CBC RadioSonic's best of 1998 broadcast." Bassist Nik Kozub, (now of Shout Out Out Out Out), later joined the band.

Doucet began a solo career in 2001 with the release of his album Aloha, Manitoba ; he continued to perform and record with Veal. [7] The band released a third album in 2003, The Embattled Hearts . [8]

Primitive Radio Gods is an American alternative rock band from Southern California. Wintersleep Canadian indie rock band

Wintersleep is a Canadian indie rock band formed in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2001. Based in Halifax, the band's original lineup consisted of lead vocalist and guitarist Paul Murphy, guitarist and keyboardist Tim d'Eon, and drummer Loel Campbell. In 2002, Jud Haynes joined the band as bass guitarist until 2007. In 2005, Mike Bigelow joined the band as a keyboardist until 2006, when he then acted as a bass guitarist from 2007 to 2016. Paul Brennan is a Canadian musician. A drummer, Brennan has been a member of the Animal Slaves, Odds and Big Sugar. He has also contributed as a guest musician on albums by Meryn Cadell, Sarah McLachlan, Taste of Joy, Julie Ann Bertram and Mae Moore. He is currently playing with Alannah Myles and Jordan Paul and performing locally in Toronto.

Melissa McClelland is an American-born Canadian singer-songwriter who lived in Hamilton, Ontario, in her youth and now bases her career from Toronto, Ontario. McClelland's music is influenced by blues and Americana. A writer on CMJ's staff blog wrote that McClelland has "a persona reminiscent of a female Tom Waits."

Canadian hardcore punk

Canadian hardcore punk originated in the early 1980s. It was harder, faster, and heavier than the Canadian punk rock that preceded it. Hardcore punk is a punk rock music genre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. The origin of the term "hardcore punk" is uncertain. The Vancouver-based band D.O.A. may have helped to popularize the term with the title of their 1981 album, Hardcore '81. Hardcore historian Steven Blush said that the term "hardcore" is also a reference to the sense of being "fed up" with the existing punk and new wave music. Blush also states that the term refers to "an extreme: the absolute most Punk." One definition of the genre is "a form of exceptionally harsh punk rock."

Apollo Ghosts

Apollo Ghosts is a Canadian indie rock band formed in Nanaimo in 2009. They were based in Vancouver, British Columbia until the project ended in 2013. The band consists of singer and guitarist Adrian Teacher, bassist and guitarist Jason Oliver, bassist Jarrett K, and drummer Amanda Panda. They reunited on January 20, 2019 with members Adrian Teacher, Amanda P., Robbie N. and Luke N.

Whitehorse (band)

Whitehorse is a Canadian folk rock band, composed of husband-and-wife duo Luke Doucet and Melissa McClelland. Based in Hamilton, Ontario, Doucet and McClelland were both established singer-songwriters before opting to put their solo careers on hold to work together as Whitehorse.
