The Republic of China (Taiwan) competed at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich for the last time as the "Republic of China". The ROC would not return to the Olympics until 1984 and under the name "Chinese Taipei" due to objections by the People's Republic of China over the political status of Taiwan.
Ryan John Pini MBE is a 4-time Olympic swimmer from Papua New Guinea. He swam for PNG at the 2004,2008,2012,and 2016 Olympics;also serving as the PNG flagbearer in 2008 and 2016. He is the first PNG swimmer ever to reach an Olympic final.

At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro,she finished in 21st place in the women's 100 m butterfly and did not qualify for the semifinals. She competed in the women's 200 m medley where she finished 11th in the semifinals and did not qualify for the final. Chuyev qualified for the men's 200 m butterfly at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London,by clearing a FINA B-standard entry time of 1:58.88 from the Ukrainian Summer Cup in Kharkiv. He challenged seven other swimmers on the second heat,including former semifinalist Hsu Chi-chieh of the Chinese Taipei. Chuyev edged out Romania's Alexandru Coci to notch a fourth spot by two hundredths of a second (0.02) in 1:59.65. Chuyev failed to advance into the semifinals,as he placed twenty-eighth overall in the preliminaries.

Liess is a member of SSG Saar Max Ritter in Germany,under his Russian-born coach Gennadi Touretski,who is best known for training multiple Olympic medalists Alexander Popov and Michael Klim in the late 1990s.
