Justice Humchadakatte Gopalaiah Ramesh (born 16 January 1957) is an Indian jurist. He served as the acting Chief Justice at the High Court of Karnataka between 10 October 2017 and 12 February 2018. [1] [2]
Justice Ramesh enrolled as an advocate in 1982 and began his practice at Karnataka High Court. He was appointed an Additional Judge of the Court in May 2003 and elevated as a Permanent Judge in September 2004. [1] In February 2017,he turned down the Supreme Court collegium's offer to be made the Chief Justice of Madras High Court. [2]
The Economic Times reported in March 2017 that Justice Ramesh was upset over being denied a promotion to the Supreme Court of India in favour of Justice S. Abdul Nazeer. In protest,he wrote to the then Chief Justice of India Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar stating that "My supersession on ground of giving representation to a minority in the Supreme Court by recommending the name of a judge,who is junior to me,is certainly not correct." Justice Ramesh also said,"I request lordships to deny me the honour of becoming the chief justice of Madras High Court." Justice Indira Banerjee of the High Court of Delhi was subsequently appointed in his place. [4]
The High Court of Karnataka is the High Court of the Indian state of Karnataka and thus its highest judicial authority. The court's principal bench is located in Bengaluru,the capital city of Karnataka,with additional benches in Hubballi-Dharwada and Kalaburagi. It was previously called the High Court of Mysore. In Bengaluru,the High Court functions out of a red-painted brick building known as the Attara Kacheri,located opposite the Vidhana Soudha,the seat of the Karnataka Legislature.

Jayaram Jayalalithaa,commonly referred to as Jayalalithaa,was an Indian politician who was the six time Chief Minister of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. She was initially convicted for misusing her office during her tenure of 1991–96. Subramanian Swamy was the chief petitioner. Some of the allegations involved spending on her foster son's lavish marriage in 1996 and her acquisition of properties worth more than ₹66.65 crore,as well as jewellery,cash deposits,investments and a fleet of luxury cars. This was the first case where a ruling chief minister had to step down on account of a court sentence. Ultimately,in May 2015,her conviction was overturned,she was acquitted of all charges,and she then died before the Supreme Court of India reviewed the case in 2017.

Justice Chinnaswamy Swaminathan Karnan is a retired Indian judge. In May 2017,he was sentenced to six months of imprisonment by the Supreme Court of India,holding him guilty of contempt of court. The Central Government has approved the appointment of former Chief Justice of Manipur High Court,Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar as the president of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) for a period of five years in October 28,2021. Justice Sudhakar has been appointed for a period of five years from the date of appointment or till he attains the age of 67 or until further orders,whichever is earlier.
Justice Huluvadi G. Ramesh is the second seniormost Judge at the Madras High Court in India since April 2016. He briefly officiated as the Acting Chief Justice of the court from February 2017 till the appointment of Indira Banerjee as Chief Justice in April 2017. He was transferred to the High Court of Madhya Pradesh,Principal Seat at Jabalpur and assumed charge on 15.11.2018.
Vijaya Kamlesh Tahilramani is a former Indian judge and prosecutor,who last served as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court. Previously,as a judge of the Bombay High Court,she notably upheld the conviction of several persons for the rape of a pregnant Muslim woman during the 2002 Gujarat riots,chastising investigative authorities for their inaction in the matter,and also refused parole for those convicted in the 1993 Bombay bombings. She retired in 2019,after refusing to accept a controversial transfer from the Madras High Court to the Meghalaya High Court.

Sir Srinivas Varadachariar was an Indian jurist who was the first Indian chief justice of the Federal Court of India when he served as the acting chief justice of the court between 25 April 1943 and 7 June 1943. He was also a judge of the Madras High Court and of the Federal Court of India. Varadachariar headed the ad-hoc committee of the Constituent Assembly of India,which drafted the provisions to set up the Supreme Court of India.
