Humphrey Nabimanya is a Ugandan social entrepreneur, philanthropist, peer educator, founder and team leader at Reach A Hand, Uganda. [1] [2] He founded the Ikon Awards. [3] [4]

Early life and education

Nabimanya was born on 14 November 1988 and has seven siblings. [5]

Nabimanya attended Rubaga Primary school (Queen of Peace) in 2003, Kiira College Butiki from 2004 to 2007 for his 0'level, and Namirembe Hillside High School between 2008 and 2009. In 2013, he graduated from Makerere University with a bachelor's degree in community psychology. [6]

Career

A recipient of the 2011 Young Achievers Award for Film and Photography, [7] Nabimanya is a youth Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights advocate, leader, change agent and a presenter of a youth empowerment on NBS Television in Uganda. [8]

In 2011, while in his first year at the University, Nabimanya founded Reach A Hand, Uganda a youth led non-profit organization focused on youth empowerment programs with an emphasis on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights, [9] HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention. [10]

Through Reach A Hand Uganda, Nabimanya has created a movement of young advocates [11] with a team of 46 members and 1,755 volunteers under the Peer Educators Academy who, by the end of 2020, had helped to reach over 6,618,171 people through various project interventions and 18,205,652 through social media. Reach A Hand Uganda has interventions [12] in 66 schools reaching approximately 20,100 young people and 67,193 out of school young people. [13] [14]

Nabimanya educates youth about sexual reproductive health and rights. [15] He supports his peers take control of their lives and present themselves in ways that inspires, [16] impresses and spurs confidence in themselves and their peers under a platform where they have full opportunities to take part in the process of breaking barriers hindering them from making informed choices in life regarding their SRHR. [17]

She also starred in the Usama Mukwaya's Hello that won her the best actress in the 2011 MNFPAC students awards. She recently appeared in a Henry Ssali film Bullion with her sister Juliana Kanyomozi She is confirmed to work with Usama Mukwaya again on his upcoming film Love Faces alongside Moses Kiboneka Jr. and Patriq Nkakalukanyi and a Douglas Dubois Sebamala film Black Glove.

Reach A Hand, Uganda (RAHU) is a youth serving nonprofit organisation based in Uganda that focuses on youth empowerment programs with an emphasis on, Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) and Advocacy of young people between the ages of 10–30 years including HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention ,youth livelihood promotion. RAHU works with the goal of increasing access to information and services relating to SRHR for young people so as to empower them live healthy, focused and productive lives. Reach A Hand Uganda's efforts are timely to make a contribution to ensuring that every young person in Uganda can access accurate information to aid and direct them in taking that crucial life decision regarding their life skills and development, and sexual reproductive health and rights.

Aware Girls is a non-governmental organization in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, founded in 2002 which aims to address violence and discrimination against women and young girls in Pakistan, and advocate for women's rights, education, and access to sexual and reproductive health resources. Their stated aim is "to strengthen the leadership capacity of young women enabling them to act as agents of social change and women empowerment in their communities."

Judith Alyek is a Ugandan politician and the district Woman Representative for Kole District in Uganda's 10th Parliament. She is a member of the National Resistance Movement on whose ticket she ran on in the 2016 general elections. She also serves as the Chairperson on the Committee on HIV/AIDS and related diseases.

The Association for Rehabilitation and Re-Orientation of Women for Development, abbreviated as TERREWODE, is a leading Ugandan nonprofit organization. It pioneered best practices for the elimination of obstetric fistula in Uganda over 16 years. The organization focuses on maternal and reproductive health. Headquartered in Soroti, TERREWODE's efforts target the empowerment and education of young women in rural communities. TERREWODE's activism focuses on women's rights to maternal, reproductive and sexual health, as well as the treatment and social reintegration of victims of obstetric fistula.

<i>Kyaddala</i> Ugandan television series

Kyaddala is a Ugandan drama television series by Reach a Hand Uganda. The first season was produced by Emmanuel Ikubese Films and Reach a Hand Uganda. Set in a present day high school life, Kyaddala a Luganda word for "It's Real", focuses on real life social issues that affect young people across Africa and their attempts to overcome those issues. The series features actors and actresses from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, and Nigeria. Kyaddala premiered on 27 September 2019 at Kingdom Kampala.

Solomon Serwanjja is a Ugandan investigative journalist and the Executive Director of the African Institute for Investigative Journalism (AIIJ). On 13 July 2021, he resigned from his position as news anchor with NBSTV ending his 13 year career on television. In 2019 Serwanjja was awarded the Komla Dumor Award, an annual award given by the BBC to celebrate African journalists. He holds a Masters Degree in Journalism and Communication from Makerere University.


Joseph Tamale Mirundi is a Ugandan journalist, author and political analyst who appears on the STV political show Sharp Talk with Tamale Mirundi. In 2022, Tamale opened up an online newspaper where he publishes news and information named Kab News. He previously appeared on NBS Television on the One on One show. He is a former presidential press secretary, and media advisor.

Josephine Nabukenya is a Ugandan HIV/AIDS activist who is also living with HIV/AIDS. She serves as a Stephen Lewis Foundation Youth program coordinator at Makerere University Johns Hopkins University (MUJHU). She was awarded the Queen’s Young Leader Award in 2016 for her advocacy work. She is also an Ambassador at Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF)'s Ariel Club. She is one of the young leaders who grew from being timid to a resilient and powerful young leader who encourages other children to live positively and take their pills.

The iKon Awards - Film & Television is an awarding programmethat recognizes and rewards implementers and personalities in the Film and Television and Mainstream Media in Uganda and ultimately, Africa. Founded by Humphrey Nabimanya, the new annual initiative is now presented by SAUTIplus Media Hub.
