Hylambates dorsalis

Last updated

Hylambates dorsalis is a name given to a frog specimen now in the Berlin's Natural History Museum. It was proposed as the type species of the genus Dendrobatorana, but both taxa are considered as nomina inquirenda , a name that cannot be related to any known species in the wild. [1] Its type locality is "Yoruba (Lagos)"; [1] however, this seems erroneous as the holotype appears to be an Asian member of the family Rhacophoridae. Distribution and ecology of this frog are unknown. [2]

Limnodynastes dumerilii Species of amphibian

Limnodynastes dumerilii is a frog species from the family Limnodynastidae. The informal names for the species and its subspecies include eastern or southern banjo frog, and bull frog. The frog is also called the pobblebonk after its distinctive "bonk" call, which is likened to a banjo string being plucked. There are five subspecies of L. dumerilii, each with different skin coloration. The species is native to eastern Australia. There has been one occurrence in New Zealand, when tadpoles of the species were found in 1999 and destroyed.

Mexican burrowing toad Species of amphibian

The Mexican burrowing toad is the only species in the genus Rhinophrynus and the family Rhinophrynidae of order Anura. Their distribution stretches from south Texas through Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador to Nicaragua and Costa Rica. R. dorsalis mostly commonly inhabits the subtropical and tropical dry forests within its range characterized by wet and dry seasons, but may also be found during periods of heavy rain in pastures, cultivated field, roadside ditches or other open areas. The family was once more widespread, including species ranging as far north as Canada, but these died out in the Oligocene.

Southern cricket frog Species of amphibian

The southern cricket frog or southeastern cricket frog is a small hylid frog native to the Southeastern United States. It is very similar in appearance and habits to the northern cricket frog, Acris crepitans, and was considered formerly conspecific. The scientific name Acris is from the Greek word for locust, and the species name gryllus is Latin for cricket.

Theloderma asperum Species of amphibian

Theloderma asperum is a frog in the family Rhacophoridae. It is also known as the pied warty frog, hill garden bug-eyed frog, or somewhat informally, bird poop frog. The frog can be found in the northeastern India, Burma, China, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam as well as Sumatra in Indonesia. However, because of confusion with Theloderma albopunctatus and Theloderma baibengensis, it is known with certainty from its type locality in Peninsular Malaysia.

"Calamita" quadrilineatus is a possible species of frog described in 1799. The type locality is unknown, but the original publication considered Calamita quadrilineatus to be similar to Hyla leucophyllata. The status of this name placed in the subfamily Hylinae is unclear and it is considered a nomen dubium. The type series is presumed to be lost.

The dwarf rocket frog is a species of frog in the family Pelodryadidae.

The brown banana frog, also known as the striped spiny reed frog, is an anuran in the family Hyperoliidae.

Leptopelis bequaerti is a species of frog in the family Arthroleptidae. It is endemic to Liberia and only known from its type locality, Gbarnga, and from Mount Coffee. Common name Gbanga forest treefrog has been coined for it. It is a poorly known species with uncertain taxonomic validity.

The Tai forest tree frog, Leptopelis occidentalis, is a species of frog in the family Arthroleptidae. It is found in Liberia, southern Ivory Coast, and Ghana. Records from Nigeria are controversial and may refer to other species, possibly Leptopelis boulengeri.

Leptopelis viridis is a species of frog in the family Arthroleptidae. It is widely distributed in the West and Central African savanna zone between Senegal and the Gambia to the northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Hylanicefori also known as the Colombian Backpack Frog, is a species of frog in the family Hylidae. It is endemic to the border region between Boyacá and Casanare in Colombia and only known from the holotype. The name format, as used by the American Museum of Natural History's Amphibian Species of the World, indicates that while this species is temporarily kept in the hylid type genus Hyla, it belongs elsewhere in the family and will be reassigned pending a taxonomic resolution. It was originally placed in Cryptobatrachus, but a later study revealed a number morphological differences showing that it is not in family Hemiphractidae, instead pointing to it being a hylid frog, perhaps Hyloscirtus.

The hooting frog is a species of frog in the family Limnodynastidae. It is endemic to Australia. Its natural habitats are temperate forests and intermittent rivers.

Microhyla fusca is a species of frog in the family Microhylidae. It is endemic to Vietnam: it is only known from its type locality, Da Lat on Lang Biang Plateau in southern Vietnam. Its natural habitats are swamps, freshwater marshes, and intermittent freshwater marshes. Its status is insufficiently known.

Amolops bellulus is a species of frog in the family Ranidae that is endemic to the Gaoligong Mountains. It is only known from the area of its type locality in Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan, China, but it is expected to occur in the adjacent Myanmarian part of the mountains. Amolops bellulus lives in and near fast-flowing mountain streams. Its status is insufficiently known.

Sphaerotheca leucorhynchus is a species of frog in the family Dicroglossidae. It is endemic to India: it is only known from its type locality in Kodagu district, Karnataka, in southern India. The type specimen is lost, and this name might be a junior synonym of Sphaerotheca breviceps.

Leptopelis spiritusnoctis Species of frog

Leptopelis spiritusnoctis is a species of frog in the family Arthroleptidae. It is found in West Africa from Guinea to the Niger Delta in Nigeria, the intervening countries being Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, and Benin. This species was previously known as Leptopelis hyloides, but that name is actually a junior synonym of Leptopelis viridis.
