British hip hop, also known as UK hip hop, is a genre of music, and a culture that covers a variety of styles of hip hop music made in the United Kingdom. It is generally classified as one of a number of styles of R&B/Hip-Hop. British hip hop can also be referred to as Brit-hop, a term coined and popularised mainly by British Vogue magazine and the BBC. British hip hop was originally influenced by the dub/toasting introduced to the United Kingdom by Jamaican migrants in the 1950s–70s, who eventually developed uniquely influenced rapping in order to match the rhythm of the ever-increasing pace and aggression of Jamaican-influenced dub in the UK. Toasting and soundsystem cultures were also influential in genres outside of hip hop that still included rapping – such as grime, jungle, and UK garage.
Grime is a genre of electronic dance music that emerged in London in the early 2000s. It developed out of the earlier UK dance style UK garage, and draws influences from jungle, dancehall, and hip hop. The style is typified by rapid, syncopated breakbeats, generally around 140 beats per minute, and often features an aggressive or jagged electronic sound. Emceeing is a significant element of the style, and lyrics often revolve around gritty depictions of urban life.
Roll Deep are a British grime crew. They were founded in 2001 by Wiley shortly before the disbandment of UK garage crew Pay As U Go Cartel.

Justin Clarke, better known by his stage name Ghetts, is a British grime MC, rapper and songwriter. His music has been played on national radio stations such as BBC Radio 1, Kiss 100, BBC Asian Network, and BBC Radio 1Xtra. Currently, Ghetts is signed to independent record label Disrupt, and released his debut studio album, Rebel with a Cause, on 9 March 2014. Known for his hard hitting lyrics and intricate rhyme schemes, he is associated and has toured internationally with such acts as Kano and was a member of NASTY Crew.
Kwasi Esono Danquah III, known by the stage name Tinchy Stryder, is a Ghanaian-British rapper, singer, songwriter, entrepreneur and investor.
Nathaniel Thompson, better known professionally as Giggs, is a British rapper and songwriter from Peckham, London. He released his debut studio album Walk in da Park in 2008 and released a follow-up album Let Em Ave It the following year.
"Number 1" is a song composed by Ghanaian-British rapper Tinchy Stryder featuring vocals from Dappy of N-Dubz and co-written by Dappy, James Lavelle and Fraser T. Smith, who produced the track, for Stryder's second studio album, Catch 22. Ruff Sqwad are an English grime crew. The group was formed in 2001 in Bow, East London. Various members and affiliates of the crew are considered key figures in the early development of grime music.
Lost and Found is the second of 3 mixtapes by Tinchy Stryder, It was released on 24 October 2006 on the label Boy Better Know. The mixtape sees Stryder rapping with Wiley, who featured on Stryders first mixtape, I'm Back U Know, and the mixtape also features a few members of Ruff Sqwad. It features a collection of 14 unreleased tracks that had never been heard before the release of the mixtape, and Underground which was released in 2005.
"Mainstream Money" is the third and final single from grime vocalist Tinchy Stryder's debut album, Star in the Hood. The single was released in November 2007. The song was written and produced by renowned grime music producer Maniac, who has claimed that the instrumental for the track is the one he is most proud of. The song was also notable for being heard on the BBC soap "EastEnders" several times in late 2007. The track "Sorry, You Are?" was also released as part of the single. It features vocals from fellow rapper Chipmunk, and later featured as a hidden track on Star in the Hood, and also appeared on Cloud 9: The EP.
Happy Birthday is the fourth mixtape released by British rapper Tinie Tempah. The mixtape was released for free download on 16 December 2011 on Disturbing London Records - featuring production from 3Mindz, S-X, Wizzy Wow and Stargate. The mixtape title is Happy Birthday because the mixtape came into production around Tempah's 23rd birthday. Tracks "Like It or Love It", "Lucky Cunt" and "Till I'm Gone (Remix)" were leaked prior to the mixtape release to create buzz, with "Like It or Love It" receiving minor radio airplay. Happy Birthday features British rappers Chipmunk, Giggs, Wretch 32, G-Frsh, Tinchy Stryder and Krept and Konan, including a variety of American rappers; Soulja Boy, J. Cole and Big Sean, along with Wiz Khalifa, Pusha T and Jim Jones on the "Till I'm Gone" remix. British vocalist J. Warner also makes a guest appearance.
