I-95 derbies

The I-95 derbies [note 1] , also known as the Acela derbies are the various local soccer derbies between the teams located on the Interstate 95 highway and Northeast Corridor railway of the United States (the Northeast megalopolis). [1] It specifically refers to individual games between the teams located along the corridor, but may also be used to describe the rivalries between the supporters groups. The first I-95 derby in the modern era of American soccer history took place during the 1996 Major League Soccer season, when the New England Revolution and D.C. United played each other on April 27, 1996. The match ended in a 1–1 tie.

Historically the most intense I-95 derbies between American soccer clubs is the Atlantic Cup rivalry between D.C. United and the New York Red Bulls, [4] [5] as well as the Hudson River derby, between the Red Bulls and New York City FC, based upon polls and pundit analysis. [4] [6]

The 2013 season is the Houston Dynamo's 8th competitive season in Major League Soccer, 8th year of existence as a football club, and their second consecutive season playing at BBVA Compass Stadium. They also competed in the CONCACAF Champions League, participating in the knockout phase of the 2012–13 campaign being eliminated by Santos Laguna in the quarterfinal 3–1 on Aggregate. They will be opening the 2013–14 group stage in late July or early August 2013.

The 2017 Atlanta United FC season was the first season of Atlanta United FC's existence, and the ninth year that a professional soccer club from Atlanta, Georgia competed in the top division of American soccer. Atlanta played at Bobby Dodd Stadium for the first half of the season, then finished the season at the team's new stadium, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, once it was completed in September. The team was coached by Gerardo "Tata" Martino. Outside of MLS, Atlanta United participated in the 2017 U.S. Open Cup and the 2017 MLS Cup Playoffs, as well as various preseason competitions.

The 2017 New England Revolution season was the club's 22nd season of existence, and their 22nd season in Major League Soccer, the top-flight of American soccer.

The 2020 D.C. United season was the club's 25th season of existence, and their 25th consecutive season playing in Major League Soccer, the top flight of American soccer. The regular season began on February 29, 2020, and was suspended on March 12, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The club's season is resumed on July 13, 2020 with the MLS is Back Tournament at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Florida, where group stage fixtures counted towards the regular season standings. The season ended on November 8, 2020 with their final regular season match.

The 2021 D.C. United season was the club's 26th season of existence, and their 26th consecutive season playing in Major League Soccer, the top flight of American soccer. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its ongoing vaccination efforts, the season began on April 17, 2021 and ended on November 7, 2021. Despite winning against Toronto FC on the last match of the regular season, the team did not qualify playoffs, making it their second consecutive season in which D.C. United did not qualify for the playoffs. It was the first time since 2011, that United did not qualify for the playoffs in consecutive seasons.

The 2021 New York Red Bulls season was the club's twenty-sixth season in Major League Soccer, the top division of soccer in the United States.

The 2021 New York City FC season was the club's seventh season of competition and its seventh in the top tier of American soccer, Major League Soccer. New York City FC usually played its home games at Yankee Stadium in the New York City borough of The Bronx. Like the 2020 MLS season, the club also played several of their home games at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey due to scheduling conflicts with Yankee Stadium and its backup stadium, Citi Field. New York City FC won the clubs' first MLS Cup title by defeating the Portland Timbers 2–4 in penalty shoot-outs with a 1–1 score before going into extra time, in which neither of the teams scored.

The 2021 season was the 26th in the history of the Major League Soccer club New England Revolution. The season began on April 17, 2021 and in addition to the league, the Revolution were also to compete in the 2021 U.S. Open Cup, before the competition was canceled in July.

The 2022 season was D.C. United's 27th in existence and their 27th consecutive season in the top division of American soccer, Major League Soccer. In addition to MLS, D.C. United participated in this season's editions of the U.S. Open Cup. United also participated in the Coachella Valley Invitational and the Capital Cup friendly tournaments. The season covered the period from 1 December 2021 to 30 November 2022.

The 2023 New England Revolution season is the club's 28th season of existence, and their 28th consecutive season playing in Major League Soccer, the top flight of American soccer. The season began on February 25 when the club began their play in the MLS season. The Revolution will also play in the 2023 U.S. Open Cup and the 2023 Leagues Cup.
