Jose Garcia (born March 29, 1986), better known as IAmChino, is a renowned Cuban-American DJ, record producer, composer and artist known for his groundbreaking contributions to the Latin music scene. Born in Havana in 1983, he made his mark after catching the attention of Pitbull's manager in 2005. Since then, Garcia has collaborated with various artists, released successful albums like "Todo El Tiempo," and achieved chart-topping hits like "Ay Mi Dios" and "Pepas." His album "The Most Winning" garnered multiple nominations and awards, including winning the Urban Collaboration of the Year at the Premios Lo Nuestro Awards in 2017.

Early life

Jose Garcia was born on January 27, 1983, in Havana, Cuba, and later relocated to the United States. [1] [2]

He got his first big break in 2005, after he met Pitbull's manager, Mike Calderón. Calderón was impressed by IamChino's skills, which included the ability to get the crowd on its feet and his accessibility, taste, and athletic mixing skills. IAmChino expressed his own desire to be part of Calderón's team. The meeting led to the his DJ'ing at high-profile private events and he started getting attention. Later, he was asked to run the decks at large parties, festivals, and concerts. He began collaborating with several artists and officially joined Pitbull's crew in 2011 [3]

Career

He made his debut in the music industry with "Ay Mi Dios" in 2016, [4] featuring Pitbull and Yandel, which became very popular across Latin America topping Billboard's Latin Airplay chart. [5] [6] In 2017, he released his first album Todo El Tiempo, in which he collaborated with Major Lazer, Akon, Farruko, and other popular names in Latin music. [7] Since then, he has released several albums and hit singles. In 2021, he co-produced Pepas, which scaled the Billboard charts in a short duration. [8] [9]

In 2018 Chino collaborated with Daddy Yankee to release “La Rompe Corazones”. The single was a hit reaching number 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart. He also released “Mala Mia” featuring Maluma and “Sola” with Becky G under his label D'Leon Records/Sony Music Latin. He also collaborated with Jacob Forever for the song “Hasta Que Se Seque El Malecon” which has been streamed over 150 million times on Spotify alone. [10] His discography also includes albums such as Legacy (2018), La Nueva Religion (2020), and El Futuro (2021). [11]

The Miami-based artist, who is signed to Mr. 305 Inc. and has been DJ’ing for Pitbull since 2005, says the single was destined to become a crowd favorite. “It’s a song that has a good melody and the lyrics are about love, which allows people to relate to the track. The sound is very different. It’s a mixture of different cultures, sounds. You hear beats from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba in there”. [16]

Emanuel Herrera Batista, known by his stage name El Alfa or El Alfa El Jefe, is a Dominican rapper known as the King of Dembow. Batista was born in Bajos de Haina, Santo Domingo. He is known for his sensual voice and initial afro hairstyle which led him to popularity in the early 2010s through songs like "Tarzan", "Coche Bomba" and "Muevete Jevi". He went on to form good relationships with many artists from Puerto Rico, such as Nicky Jam, Farruko, and Myke Towers amongst others. The 34th Lo Nuestro Awards ceremony was held at the FTX Arena in Miami on February 24, 2022. Presented and televised by American television network Univision y Las Estrellas, the Lo Nuestro Awards recognized the most popular Spanish-language music of 2021 that was played on Uforia Audio Network during the year in 35 categories. Spanish singer David Bisbal, Mexican-American TV presenter Alejandra Espinoza, Mexican actor Gabriel Soto, and fellow Mexican singer Yuri hosted the ceremony.

The Premios Tu Música Urbano is an award presented by television network Telemundo Puerto Rico to recognize artists who "transcended and boosted the success of Latin urban music around the world." The show is held annually at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in Puerto Rico since 2019, is produced by Telemundo, Sora & Company and Mr. & Mrs. Entertainment, and is broadcast by Telemundo Puerto Rico in Latin America and by Telemundo in the United States. The awards were created in response to the lack of representation of reggaeton and Latin trap artists in the Latin Grammy Awards main categories and the absence of a separate Latin urban category at the Grammy Awards.
