International Hope School Bangladesh(IHSB) has represented Bangladesh in the NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge(HERC) for four years on 2021, 2022, 2024 and 2025. The school is the only high school team in the competition from Bangladesh to ever take part. The students of International Hope School Bangladesh has demonstrated clear talent and unwavering effort in the participation process of the NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge.
International Hope School Bangladesh is a English medium, private, international school from Bangladesh. It was established by Founder and Principal Kazim Eldes in 1996, back then the school was known as International Turkish Hope School. The school was inaugurated by Turkish President, Süleyman Demirel.
IHSB has 4 branches all over Bangladesh: Dhaka, Chottogram, Gulshan, Bogra. The school offers education from primary levels to all the way up to grade 12. Students of IHSB sit for IGCSE exams for secondary qualification, and sit for the A levels for general certificate of education and higher qualification.
NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge is an yearly competition for high school and university student to design and build collapsible vehicles following certain requirements. Then the student have has to race in the vehicles they built over simulated lunar or martian terrain, containing multiple obstacles. The competition was previously called the Great Moonbuggy Race. The competition is hosted by U.S. Space & Rocket Center and sponsored by NASA.
The event is held every year at the Marshall Space Flight Center, in Huntsville, Alabama.
IHSB first participated in the NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge in 2021. The team could not physically travel to Alabama for the competition due to the restrictions put in place because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead the competition was held online over the internet.
Rahat Al Mamun was named as the first team leader of IHSB's NASA HERC team and Rafiul Alam Khan was the first safety officer. The advisor of the team was Muhammad Jawadul Hassan.
IHSB's second time participating in the NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge was in 2022. This year too the team could not travel to USA due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The team leader for the team of 2022 was Mahi Zarif and the team safety officer was Mubin Hassan. The team advisor and supervisor was Abdus Samad Shohan.
In 2024, the IHSB team made their third appearance in NASA HERC competition. This year’s participation was especially significant, as it marked the first time the team was able to travel to the United States and compete in person.
The 2024 team was led by Md Asiful Haque, with Ferdous Ahamed serving as the Safety Officer. The team was supervised by Otmane Charmouka, former Head of the Biology Department at IHSB. Jawad Hossain and Warda Karicha Zara served as the rover pilots during the competition.
The sponsors that the team had is also notable: City Group, Savoy & Index Group and Meghna group.
After months of preparation and great effort on excursion day, the team managed to secure a position among the top 10, earning well-deserved recognition on an international stage.
IHSB's participation in NASA HERC 2025 marks there forth year participating. NASA HERC introduced and presented the first ever Remote Controlled Division in the competition in 2025. IHSB participated in both the Human Powered and Remote Controlled division, sending a team for each. This make IHSB one of the first teams in the world to ever compete in the Remote Controlled division.
IHSB's Human Powered Rover Team was lead by Mahjabin Alam Roshni. Moin Uddin Farhan served as the Safety Officer. The team was supervised by IHSB's faculty member, Md Abul Kalam Azad. The teams rover pilots were team leader Mahjabin Alam Roshni and Shafakat Chowdhury.
IHSB NASA Human Powered Rover Team was awarded two separate awards this year, their first awards in the competition in their three years of participation. This establishes them as the first Bangladeshi team to win any award. They were presented the Social Media Award, for being the most active in social medias among all teams in their category. The team was also awarded the Phoenix Award. This awarded is presented to the team who had improved the most. IHSB NASA HP Rover Team had an increase of almost 6 mark from approximately 6/20 to 12/20.
IHSB's Remote Controlled Rover Team was lead by Shajadi Ayman Sultana. The safety officer for the team was Shariff Takbir Ahmed. The supervising teacher was Monzoor Morshed. The rover was controlled by Hrishikesh Sen Rupom and Shayan Chowdhury.
