The INQ1 is the first product of the Hutchinson Whampoa subsidiary, INQ. The INQ1 was released in December 2008 as a social-networking phone. Retailing at a cheaper price than competitors such as the iPhone, Blackberry Storm, G1 and Nokia 5800, it also contains slightly fewer features than other 3G 'smartphones'. [1] It is thus marketed as an entry-level phone for users wanting to access websites and web-base applications from their mobile. [2] The phone was created for the 3 phone network. [3]

The INQ1 integrates a range of services such as Skype, Last.fm, eBay, Facebook, Myspace and Windows Live Messenger. The inclusion of Facebook in a prominent position has led to its description as 'the Facebook phone'. [4]

Reaction

The phone received generally positive reviews upon release. Some were extremely positive, with its low price, easy integration of multiple social networking features and light weight all being quoted as positive features. [1] [5] [6] In particular, the phone was seen as successful for a manufacturer's first handset. [2]

The phone was awarded 'best handset' at the 'Mobile World Congress' in February 2009 [7]

mylo (Sony) Handheld Internet wi-fi device, 2006–2010

My Life Online (Mylo) was a device created and marketed by Sony for portable instant messaging and other Internet-based communications, browsing Internet web sites using the Opera web browser and playback and sharing of media files. The pocket-sized, tablet-shaped handheld device, which debuted in 2006, had a screen which slid up to reveal a QWERTY keyboard. The brand name 'Mylo' means My Life Online. Using Wi-Fi instead of cellular networks, the Mylo was targeted to the 18–24 age group.

The 3 Skypephone series was a range of 3G mobile phones made as a global project by the Three brand network. The project was initiated by Three's global handset team, some of whom later went on to found the mobile phone company INQ. The phones were sold in Australia, Austria, Denmark, Italy, Ireland, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Macau, but the service has now been discontinued. Three offered 4000 free Skype outbound voice minutes with the phones. Initially, the quota expired after 90 days unless the user purchased another topup or was on a pay monthly plan. This restriction was lifted by the network in 2009, where calls could still be made and received without the need to "top up" with credit.
