I Am Spoonbender is an American/Canadian multimedia group formed in San Francisco [1] in early 1997.
Their musical style has been favorably compared to Brian Eno, Can, and This Heat, and touches on elements of neo-psychedelia, ambient music, electronic music, tape music, psychedelic folk, synth-pop, post-rock, post-punk, progressive, math rock, jazz, noise, pop, and musique concrete, with a distinctly experimental/avant-garde bent. Their sound has evolved over time and remains distinctive, making it difficult to place the group into a concise style or genre. Donaldson has noted that most of their influences are outside of music itself, although he has mentioned being inspired conceptually by Morton Subotnick, Wire, Laurie Anderson and Devo. [2]
I Am Spoonbender was formed in early 1997 by former Pansy Division drummer Dustin Donaldson with longtime friend Brian Jackson. About halfway through recording the band's debut album Sender/Receiver, Donaldson's girlfriend [3] and former cub guitarist Robynn Iwata joined the group under the name "Cup" after moving to San Francisco from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Sometime before the album's release, Marc Kate was also added to the lineup. The band set rules for itself that went against the grain of what was popular in music at the time, such as their "ban on guitars and references to religious icons." [4] The members of the band co-owned the Seismic Seance recording studio.
The group would record one more EP with this lineup, Teletwin released on Gold Standard Laboratories in 2000 before Brian Jackson would leave the band to start his solo project Memory Systems.
Dave Edwardson of Neurosis was recruited as a session musician to record their second EP Shown Actual Size released in 2002.
Marc Kate left the band sometime in 2003.
Recording of their second studio album Buy Hidden Persuaders began in 2003 intended to be released as a fully visual album released on CD/DVD. The album was finished in 2004 but band was dropped from their label for unknown reasons before its release. Having trouble finding another label to put the project out, the band turned to fan-funding and the album was released on September 11, 2006 on buyhiddenpersuaders.com as three free-of-charge WAV files that fans were encouraged to burn to CD. Limited physical copies were released along with a video posted to the website and YouTube promoting the album. The video was pulled from YouTube on January 9, 2007 for unknown Community Guidelines violations and a shorter trailer was uploaded in its place. Due to poor archiving of the Buy Hidden Persuaders website, the original video is seemingly lost.
In April 2008, Donaldson went on a trip to Egypt with author Robert Bauval as research for I Am Spoonbender's third studio album tentatively titled Synundra Appundrum. [5] Donaldson and Iwata have been back to Egypt several times since and have been in the Siwa Oasis since 2015. To date, this third album has never been released.
While not officially disbanded, the band has been on hiatus since around 2010.

Chad Salter joined as a second guitarist and appeared on the band's 1987 debut Pain of Mind and then Steve Von Till replaced him in 1989. The following year, the lineup further expanded to include a keyboardist and a visual artist. Hot Space is the tenth studio album by the British rock band Queen. It was released on 4 May 1982 by EMI Records in the United Kingdom and by Elektra Records in the United States. Marking a notable shift in direction from their earlier work, they employed many elements of disco, funk, R&B, dance, pop and new wave music on the album. Combined with the ongoing backlash against disco music, this made the album less popular with fans who preferred the traditional rock style they had come to associate with the band. Queen's decision to record a dance-oriented album germinated with the massive success of their 1980 hit "Another One Bites the Dust" in the US.
Thought Industry, formerly known as Desacrator, was an American progressive metal band. It was founded in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1989 by vocalist/bassist Brent Oberlin, drummer Dustin Donaldson, guitarist Christopher Lee Simmonds, and guitarist Steve Spaeth who replaced original Desacrator guitarist, Dan Roe. Spaeth left the band due to internal conflicts with Simmonds and started the band Clockmaker. The position was filled by guitarist Paul Enzio in time for 1992's Songs for Insects, their Metal Blade Records debut. This was followed up by Mods Carve the Pig: Assassins, Toads and God's Flesh. 1996's Outer Space Is Just a Martini Away subsequently saw a significant change in the band's sound and lineup when Donaldson was replaced by Jared Bryant. Oberlin switched to guitar and bassist Herb Ledbetter was added. Thought Industry continued to strip down their lineup and sound with 1997's moody Black Umbrella, which saw the departure of Lee. Bryant, Enzio and Ledbetter also left the band in 1999, which prompted Oberlin to assemble an entirely new lineup for 2001's magnum opus Short Wave on a Cold Day. Engineer Mike Roche, who recorded Thought Industry's Black Umbrella and Fred Thompson Trio's Scary Halloween Sound Effects and filled in on bass from time to time, was added as a full-time guitarist along with drummer Cameron Taylor, bassist Mark Baldwin and guitarist Jeff Borkowski.

With this change, Souls at Zero was one of the first post-metal albums, if not the first.
