Reception

In Exclaim! , this was listed by the staff as one of the top 25 EPs of 2021, with Adam Feibel writing that "it feels like a fully realized epic of modern punk". [2] (Despite the release's short length, the band considers it to be their debut LP. [3] ) Ian Cohen of Pitchfork Media rated this album an 8.0 out of 10, writing that the band "channels a sense of boundless possibility" and summing up that this release "feels like emo once again flipping the switch on its eternal energy source"; [1] the venue would list it among the best rock albums of 2021. [4] PopMatters' Michael Frank Lukich calls this music "therapeutic" and compares the music favorably to Bob Dylan, Fugazi, and Neutral Milk Hotel, rating it an 8 out of 10. [5] Nina Corcoran of Stereogum named Home Is Where a "Band to Watch" for "the pitch-perfect decisions of their songs" on this release. [3] The site also listed this 8 on the 50 best albums of 2021 on June 8, with critic Julia Gray calling it "a parade of harmonicas, strings, horns, and acoustic guitars", with lyrics that include "breathless images and musings" and vocals made up of "whispers mutating into guttural yelps". [6]

American Football, also known retrospectively as LP1, is the debut studio album by the American Midwest emo band of the same name, released on September 14, 1999, through Polyvinyl. It was recorded shortly after the band released their debut self-titled EP through Polyvinyl in October 1998. The group, consisting of vocalist/guitarist Mike Kinsella, guitarist Steve Holmes, and drummer Steve Lamos, recorded their debut album at Private Studios in Urbana, Illinois, with production from Brendan Gamble.

The emo revival, or fourth wave emo, was an underground emo movement which began in the late 2000s and flourished until the mid-to-late 2010s. The movement began towards the end of the 2000s third-wave emo, with Pennsylvania-based groups such as Tigers Jaw, Algernon Cadwallader and Snowing eschewing that era's mainstream sensibilities in favor of influence from 1990s Midwest emo. Acts like Touché Amoré, La Dispute and Defeater drew from 1990s emo and especially its heavier counterparts, such as screamo and post-hardcore.
