The Ngurah Rai Bypass Road,a land-based route,could not be widened because of the location of the airport runway;the new toll road was instead constructed over water.
I Gusti Ketut Pudja was an Indonesian politician and national hero,who served as the first governor of Lesser Sunda from 1945 until 1946. He was a member of the Investigating Agency for Preparatory Work for Indonesian Independence (BPUPK). He was also present at Admiral Tadashi Maeda's house,during the preparation for the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence on 17 August 1945. Making him the only Balinese to be present during the proclamation.

I Gusti Ngurah MadéAgung was the king of Badung Kingdom,Bali who died in battle during the Dutch intervention in Bali (1906). He was declared a National Hero of Indonesia by President Joko Widodo in 2015.

I Gusti Ngurah Jaya Negara is an Indonesian politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle who is the current mayor of Denpasar,Bali,having served since 2021. Before becoming mayor,he had been the city's vice mayor under Ida Bagus Rai Mantra for two terms,from 2010 to 2015 and 2016–2021,and before that he was elected twice to the city's legislature.
The 2024 Denpasar mayoral election will be held on 27 November 2024 as part of nationwide local elections to elect the GT/MT/RT for a five-year term. The previous election was held in 2020.
