"I Hope You Suffer" is a song by American rock band AFI. It was released as the lead single from their ninth studio album Burials in 2013.
The three and a half year gap between "I Hope You Suffer", and their single "Beautiful Thieves" marked the longest gap between new material in the band's existence.
During his time with Progress Wrestling, professional wrestler Jimmy Havoc used the song as his entrance music. [1]
Guitarist Jade Puget spoke with Loudwire about the song. "You can tell when listen to the song," he said. "I mean it’s not as apparent now, but the chorus is very like a rock chorus -- big guitars, drums, and the verse is all layers likes cinematic percussion and the piano and the brass ... The two parts are kind of disparate, but now they work together very well and I think that dynamic is what makes that song." [2]
"I Hope You Suffer" peaked at number 40 on the US Hot Rock Songs chart and 30 on the Hot Rock Digital Songs. [3]
The music video for the track was released on July 30, 2013 on the band's YouTube and Vevo pages. [4] The video was directed by directing duo Brad Palmer and Brian Palmer for Surround. [5] The video concept was an extension of the bands teaser promo videos that where also directed and created by Brad and Brian Palmer.

AFI is an American rock band from Ukiah, California, formed in 1991. Since 1998, it consists of lead vocalist Davey Havok, drummer and backing vocalist Adam Carson, bassist, backing vocalist and keyboardist Hunter Burgan, and guitarist, backing vocalist and keyboardist Jade Puget. Havok and Carson are the sole remaining original members. Originally a hardcore punk band, they have since delved into many genres, starting with horror punk and following through post-hardcore and emo into alternative rock and gothic rock.

Adam Alexander Carson is the drummer of the alternative rock band AFI. He and Davey Havok are the two original members left in the lineup. Carson also filled in as drummer for the psychobilly band Tiger Army. His drumming can be found on Tiger Army's Early Years EP as well as their debut album Tiger Army. Carson was also a member of Influence 13 – a band formed by Nick 13, Jade Puget, Geoff Kresge, and two other friends.

Havok and Puget later added Chris Sorenson (Saosin) on bass, Josh James on guitar, and Val Saucedo on drums.
