Ian Clark (born 1 September 1992) is an English semi-professional rugby union and rugby league player who plays as a wing. [1] A prolific try scorer during his time at Hartpury College, he has also had a number of cup appearances for Gloucester. After a spell playing rugby league Ian is currently back playing union for Clifton. [2]

Rugby career

Born in Bristol, England, Ian attended Colston's School until year 11 where his ability in school rugby union saw him progress on to Hartpury College for sixth form, helping the College win back-to-back Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) league titles. While at Hartpury College he was signed by Premiership side Gloucester as part of their academy and was dual registered with Hartpury College men's team, allowing him to combine league rugby with his studies. [3] Ian would begin his adult career playing for Hartpury College in the 2011–12 National League 2 South season and he had an outstanding debut year, scoring 27 tries to become the divisions top try scorer and helping the club to 4th in the league. [4] He also made his first team competitive debut for Gloucester in the second part of the season, making an instant impression with two tries in a 15 – 23 defeat away to London Irish in the LV Cup. [5] The final highlight of an excellent season saw Ian head to Twickenham Stadium as part of the Hartpury College student team for the 2012 BUCS Cup. He contributed two tries in a 45 – 20 win for Hartpury over Durham. [6]

During the summer of 2012 Ian appeared for Gloucester in the 2012 JP Morgan Premiership Sevens in which he was the competition's top scorer with 10 tries in a Gloucester side that finished as runners up. [7] Despite his excellent scoring record at the competition he was loaned back to Hartpury College for another season in National League 2 South, helping the club to go one better than the previous season, finishing 3rd, with Ian getting 20 tries and once more being the division's top try scorer (he was the joint top scorer but played less games). [8] He also made several appearances for Gloucester in the European Rugby Challenge Cup and LV Cup. [9]

Although he had made several appearances for Gloucester, Ian left the club to join Coventry who were playing in National League 1 (a division higher than the league Hartpury College were in). [10] [11] Despite a decent try scoring record of 4 tries in just 6 appearances in the league, Ian was unable to gain a regular spot in the Coventry team and left at the end of the season, to rejoin old team Hartpury College whose student side he had helped to another BUCS cup final victory while still at Cov. After competing in sevens rugby with Harlequins during the summer Ian switched codes to play rugby league with the Gloucestershire All Golds. [14] [15] After a spell in rugby league he joined Clifton based in his home town of Bristol, playing in National League 2 South for the 2015–16 season scoring a try on his debut against Redingensians. The 2004–05 National Division One was the 18th full season of rugby union within the second tier of the English league system, currently known as the RFU Championship. New teams to the division included Rotherham Titans who were demoted from the 2003-04 Zurich Premiership while Sedgley Park and Nottingham were promoted from the 2003–04 National Division Two. The 2006–07 National Division One was the 20th full season of rugby union within the second tier of the English league system, currently known as the RFU Championship. This season saw the league increased from 14 to 16 teams with new teams including Leeds Tykes, as well as Moseley and Waterloo who were promoted from 2005–06 National Division Two. Other changes saw Exeter Chiefs move from the County Ground to Sandy Park, a modern stadium with room for further expansion, Nottingham moved from Ireland Avenue to groundshare with Notts County at the much larger Meadow Lane and finally Cornish Pirates moved from their temporary ground at Kenwyn in Truro to the larger Recreation Ground owned by Camborne RFC.

After two seasons Rotherham dropped the 'Earth' from their name to return to 'Rotherham Titans' as sponsor Earth Mortgages ran into financial difficulties and Complete Technical Services instead became the club's new sponsor.

Nick Royle is a current England Rugby Sevens International rugby union player. He plays as a winger. He is currently playing 15-aside rugby for Caldy in the RFU Championship. As of 2018 he is the most prolific try scorer ever in National League 2 North with over 190 tries. Nick has also had success with Lancashire in the Bill Beaumont Cup - winning the competition 3 times. As well as playing international sevens, he was selected by the England Counties XV.

National One, is the third of three national leagues in the domestic rugby union competition of England. It was known as Courage League National Division Three when founded in 1987. Caldy are the current champions.

Tristan Roberts is a rugby union player who currently plays for Esher in National League 1, having previously been at US Cognac and Ealing Trailfinders. He has represented both the England Students and the England Counties XV and during his rugby career has progressed from playing in the fourth tier with Cinderford to playing in the Premiership with London Welsh. Tristan has played much of his career at fly-half and has a reputation as a very reliable points kicker who is also excellent at drop kicks.

The 2009–10 RFU Championship was the 1st season of the second division of the English domestic rugby union competitions, played between August 2009 and May 2010. The league had been restructured from the 16 teams of the previous season down to just 12. New teams included Bristol who had been relegated from the Guinness Premiership 2008–09 and Birmingham and Solihull who had been promoted from National Division Two 2008–09. As well as a decrease in teams, the league would now consist of three parts - a standard league section, promotion/relegation pools and then playoffs to determine who would go up as champions.

Gareth Evans is an English retired professional rugby union player. Between 2011 and 2019 played 85 times for Gloucester, and also played for the Ospreys in Wales. He joined Leicester Tigers in August 2021, but retired without featuring in a first team game for the club in November 2021.

The 2011–12 National League 2 South was the third season of the fourth tier (south) of the English domestic rugby union competitions since the professionalised format of the second division was introduced. The league system was 4 points for a win, 2 points for a draw and additional bonus points being awarded for scoring 4 or more tries and/or losing within 7 points of the victorious team. In terms of promotion the league champions would go straight up into National League 1 while the runners up would have a one-game playoff against the runners up from National League 2 North for the final promotion place.

Phil Chesters is an English rugby union player who is currently playing for Chinnor in National League 1 having signed for the club for the 2017-18 season. Prior to that he had made his name at Ealing Trailfinders where he had also been part of the medical staff. His best position is winger and over his career he has proved to be a tremendous try scorer who has set multiple records in lower division English rugby with Ealing, notably all-time records of 42 tries in a season in tier 3 and an amazing 70 tries in a season in tier 4 – a record that is unlikely to ever be beaten. Matt McLean is a Welsh rugby union player currently playing for Worthing Raiders in National League 2 South. Known for both his try scoring and kicking prowess, as of the end of the 2018-19 season, Matt is the most prolific points scorer in National League 2 South with over 2,300 points scored for Worthing, including three seasons as the division's top points scorer, as well as being the division's 2nd highest try scorer of all-time with 115 tries. A former Wales youth international, he has also represented his country in rugby sevens.

The 2017–18 RFU Championship, known for sponsorship reasons as the Greene King IPA Championship, was the ninth season of the professionalised format of the RFU Championship, the second tier of the English rugby union league system run by the Rugby Football Union. It was contested by eleven English clubs and one from Jersey in the Channel Islands. The competition was sponsored by Greene King for a fifth successive season.
