Ian Christopher Dyson, QPM , DL (born 26 October 1960) is a retired senior British police officer, having previously been the Commissioner and the Assistant Commissioner of the City of London Police
Dyson was born on 26 October 1960 in Epsom, Surrey, England. He was educated at Kingston Grammar School, then a direct grant grammar school in Kingston upon Thames, London. He studied history at the University of Leeds, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. [1]
Dyson began his police career in 1983 with the Metropolitan Police. [2] He served in that force until 2008, when he moved to Surrey Police as an Assistant Chief Constable. In 2010, he then moved to the City of London Police as Commander, being promoted to Assistant Commissioner in 2012. He was appointed Commissioner of the City of London Police effective 1 January 2016. [3] In May of 2021, Dyson announced his retirement and was succeeded by Commissioner Angela McLaren who took up her post on 3 January 2022. [4]

Kingston Grammar School is a private co-educational day school in Kingston upon Thames, England. Patrick Tomkins QPM was appointed HM Chief Inspector of Constabulary for Scotland by Royal Warrant in March 2007 and retired from the post in April 2009. He was formerly the Chief Constable of Lothian and Borders Police, which he joined in 2002 and was succeeded by David Strang. He initially joined Sussex Police in 1979 and in 1993 transferred to the Metropolitan Police Service as a Chief Superintendent. He served as divisional commander at Paddington Green before being promoted to Commander to attend the Royal College of Defence Studies in 1997, where he took the prize for the best research paper that year. He served as Commander (Crime) for the then 1 Area (Central), where he led a multi-force search for the serial rapist Richard Baker, and was the day shift Gold commander for the policing of the occupation of the Greek Embassy in London in 1999. In 1999 he was seconded to HM Inspectorate of Constabulary as a Deputy Assistant Commissioner.
