Ibrahim Mohammed Awal (born 1962) [1] is a Ghanaian journalist,marketer,entrepreneur and politician. He was CEO of Graphic Communications Group and Chase Petroleum. He is a member of the New Patriotic Party and has served as Minister of Business Development of Ghana since 2017. He was the Minister for Tourism,Arts and Culture. [2]
Ibrahim Awal attended Ghana Senior High School in the Northern Region of Ghana before proceeding to the Ghana Institute of Journalism in Accra. [3] He holds a Masters in Applied Business Research from the Swiss Business School,Switzerland,and an Executive Masters in Business Administration from the University of Ghana Business School,Legon. He obtained a master's degree in International Journalism from the University of Wales,United Kingdom. As of January 2017,he was pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration at the Swiss Business School. [1] [4]
After completing the school of journalism,Mohammed Awal joined the Graphic Communications Group Limited first as a reporter and later page editor. [5] He was promoted to the position of general manager for marketing after a brief stint as the advertising manager. He was appointed as chief executive officer of the company in 2007. [5] He resigned in 2010 to take up the position of managing director of Chase Petroleum —a downstream oil marketing company. [1] In 2009,he was awarded the Marketing Man of the year for his contribution towards marketing in Ghana by the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana. [3] [4] [6] At the time of his appointment,Mohammed Awal was the CEO of Marble Communication Group Limited,a private publishing house in Ghana. [3] [7]
On 12 January 2017,Mohammed Awal was nominated by President Akuffo-Addo for the position of Minister for Business Development. [3] [8] The ministry was a new ministry and is to formulate policies and facilitate the work of Ghana's private sector. [9] [10] His appointment was hailed by the Ghana Union of Traders,the Association of Ghana Industries and the general business community in the country with most wondering why it had not been established earlier under previous governments. [9] [10] He was vetted by the appointments committee of the Parliament of Ghana on 7 February 2017. [11] [12] During his vetting he made known to the committee that he would help set up 20 bid companies by 2020 to reduce unemployment. [13] Under this policy his ministry would help promote the interest of business by reducing interest rates,do away with nuisance taxes and speed up the rate for business registration while protecting locally manufactured goods from unfair competition from foreign imports. [13] Another policy he announced to the committee was to ensure that more women in Ghana could own their own business. [11] He was approved by parliament and sworn in by President Akuffo-Addo on 10 February 2017. [14] [15] In May 2017,he made it known that it was his ministry's plan encourage the private sector to grow the economy and triple annual gross domestic product to 200 billion cedis by 2020. [16] Dr. Awal has disclosed at the launch of the Zongo Business Initiative in Tamale that government has allocated ¢10m to support Zongo youth entrepreneurs in the five regions of the north,to help flake up their businesses. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is a Ghanaian politician who has served as the president of Ghana since 2017. He previously served as Attorney General from 2001 to 2003 and as Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2003 to 2007 under the Kufuor-led administration.

Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta,is a Ghanaian investment banker who served as the Minister for Finance and Economic Planning in the cabinet of Nana Akufo-Addo from 2017 to 2024. He was a co-founder of Databank Group,a Ghanaian financial services company,and served as executive chairman until 2012 when he resigned. He was nominated by President Nana Akufo-Addo on 10 January 2017 and assumed office on 27 January 2017 as finance minister. On February 14,2024,he was relieved of his position as the finance minister of Ghana by Nana Akufo-Addo.
Mavis Hawa Koomson is a Ghanaian politician and educationist. She is the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East Constituency and doubles as the Minister of Special Development Initiatives. She was appointed by President of Ghana Nana Akuffo-Addo on 10 January 2017 as Minister of Special Development Initiatives.Mavis Hawa Koomson advocates for women's empowerment,education,and healthcare. She has also been involved in initiatives to promote fisheries and aquaculture development in Ghana.

Osei was in the cabinet of President John Agyekum Kufuor first as Minister of State for Finance and Economic Planning and then Acting Minister of Finance. Catherine Ablema Afeku is a Ghanaian politician. She is a member of the New Patriotic Party and the Member of Parliament for the Evalue Gwira Constituency in the Western Region. She was a cabinet minister in the Nana Akuffo-Addo administration and served as the Minister of Tourism,Culture and Creative Arts of Ghana from February 2017 to February 2019.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana was a part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The first two cases in Ghana were confirmed on 12 March 2020,when two infected people came to Ghana,one from Norway and the other from Turkey.
The Government of Ghana initially responded to the virus through a nationwide disinfection and fumigation exercise which began in April 2020. In order to curb the spread of the virus,the government enforced lockdowns,aggressive contact tracing,public bans and social measures such as encouraging the wearing of face masks. By April,it began the gradual reopening of the country;lifting all lockdowns while maintaining protocols such as social distancing. Throughout the pandemic,the government partnered with the private sector in order to roll out economic reliefs and recovery programs as a result of the impact of the pandemic on Ghana's economy. There was also an expansion of medical facilities and the improvement of testing logistics.
The presidency of Nana Akufo-Addo began on 7 January 2017. Following the 2016 Ghanaian general elections,Nana Akufo-Addo the flag-bearer of the New Patriotic Party,succeeded John Mahama as the 5th President of the Ghanaian Fourth Republic after winning by a landslide. He won a second term on 9 December 2020 in a tightly contested race against National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate and former president,John Mahama.
