Idi Rayeuk has a tropical rainforest climate (Af) with moderate rainfall from February to August and heavy rainfall from September to January.

In 1938, due to a reorganization of the government structure of the Indies, it no longer had a governor and became a Residency instead, called the Atjeh and Dependencies Residency.
